Andy Dalton – Fantasy Analysis

Howdy, y’all Christopher Pinto here lead Fantasy Football writer and analyst for BellyUpSports. The NFL Draft is now over and dreams were made! The next saga that will continue to make the headlines are Free Agency moves. Many of the Drafts and NFL’s big names are still in limbo. That waiting period ends for one native Texan quarterback.

Andy Dalton the Red Rifle, former quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals will part ways with the organization and play for his native state of Texas in Dallas. Breaking this last night Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys and Andy Dalton are agreeing upon a one year deal sending him to back up Dak Prescott.

This is an interesting move for both Dalton and the Cowboys as the entire weekend leading up to this pegged Dalton to go to either New England, Jacksonville, or New York. The former TCU quarterback stays home and does not have to relocate as he lives in Frisco, TX. The Cowboys have been known to pay their stars as both offensive and defensive players have seen Jerry’s checkbook this off-season. Dalton agrees to a one year deal worth up to $7M, while Dak is playing on the franchise tag and is looking for a long-term deal.

With both quarterbacks proven starters in the league what does this mean for the Cowboys elite level wide receiving corps? Who will win the starting at camp and will Dak be a Cowboy come next season? There will be a lot of questions to be answered come Week 1 of the Regular Season. Let’s look at the newest member of the Dallas Cowboys career stats with the Bengals.

Career Stats:

  • 2011 – 300/516 / 3,398 yards / 20 TDs / 13 INTs = 80.4QBR
  • 2012 – 329/528 / 3,669 yards / 27 TDs / 16 INTs = 87.4 QBR
  • 2013 – 363/586 / 4,293 yards / 33 TDs / 20 INTs = 88.8 QBR
  • 2014 – 309/481 / 3,398 yards / 19 TDs / 17 INTs = 83.5 QBR
  • 2015 – 255/386 / 3,250 yards / 25 TDs / 7 INTs = 106.2 QBR
  • 2016 – 364/563 / 4,206 yards / 18 TDs / 8 INTs = 91.8 QBR
  • 2017 – 297/496 / 3,320 yards / 25 TDs / 12 INTs = 86.6 QBR
  • 2018 – 226/365 / 2,566 yards / 21 TDs / 11 INTs = 89.6 QBR
  • 2019 – 314/528 / 3,494 yards / 16 TDs / 14 INTs = 78.3 QBR

Fantasy Analysis:

Andy Dalton has always been a game manager, quite the opposite of incumbent Dak Prescott. The addition of Dalton to the quarterback room of Dallas is defiantly a surprise to some. Dalton will not be on the Fantasy radar until we know more about Dak and even then I would stay away. The addition of him is more so a safety precaution for Jerry Jones. Until Dalton gains the favor of his new club and takes the starting role I don’t have him on my fantasy radar. Now if the time comes and he does take the spot from Dak, he will be a low end QB1 with the high powered offense in Dallas.
