Ceilings and Floors: Chicago Bears

This is the 21st of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We start off the NFC North with The Chicago Bears. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Washington Redskins. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Mitchell Trubisky

CEILING: 29 TDs, 3,900 yards passing, and 5 TDs, 500 yards rushing. He has a firm grip on the starting QB spot for 2021.

FLOOR: Gets beaten out by Foles, and goes down as one of the bigger busts in recent draft history.

PREDICTION: 25 TDs, 3,400 yards passing, 3 TDs, 300 yards rushing, and Trubisky finally performs more in line with expectations.

QB2: Nick Foles

CEILING: Beats out Trubisky in the preseason, and throws for 28 TDs and 4,100 yards.

FLOOR: Does not play as Trubisky holds on to QB1.

PREDICTION: Trubisky is more of a threat with his legs, and Foles has only shown flashes but has lacked consistency for the majority of his career. I don’t think he plays, but Trubisky is no sure thing. If he does play, I expect 23 TDs, 3,400 yards passing. I don’t see him starting in 2021 regardless.

QB3: Tyler Bray

CEILING: Foles and Trubisky injure each other in a cage match for QB1, and Bray is somehow handed the keys. 19 TDs, 2,900 yards, and a sad, sad Chicago Bears 2020.

FLOOR: Enjoys the beautiful Chicago winter alone on the bench.

PREDICTION: He has some very nice winter coats.

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: David Montgomery

CEILING: After an inefficient 2019 season, Montgomery rebounds and produces like everyone expected him to last year. 13 total TDs, 1,500 total yards, and RB1 convo in 2021.

FLOOR: Montgomery can’t cut it in the NFL, he does not improve on his 4.0 yards per touch average, and is replaced as early as midseason.

PREDICTION: Montgomery should have a solid year, Chicago won’t be as dysfunctional offensively in 2020. I like 10 total TDs and 1,300 total yards.

RB2: Tarik Cohen

CEILING: Cohen gets more touches than Montgomery, and responds with 11 total TDs and 1,400 total yards.

FLOOR: Cohen is used incorrectly once again, and scores 3 TDs along with 600 total yards.

PREDICTION: Cohen is a weapon, not a featured back. If the Bears use him as such, he still holds value. I expect 7 total TDs and 800 total yards.

RB3: Ryan Nall

CEILING: Injuries allow him touches, and he somehow scores 4 TDs along with 350 yards.

FLOOR: He rides the bench hard, causing tailbone bruising.

PREDICTION: He gets a comfy pillow to sit on.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: Allen Robinson

CEILING: 14 TDs, 1,400 yards, which we have seen Robinson do in 2015.

FLOOR: 5 TDs, 900 yards, and a trade demand to get him a real QB.

PREDICTION: Robinson is clearly talented, but I am not as high on him as some. I see 7 TDs and 1,100 yards.

WR2: Anthony Miller

CEILING: 9 TDs, 1,000 yards, and a breakout from Miller in 2020.

FLOOR: 3 TDs, 500 yards, and moving down the depth chart.

PREDICTION: Miller has a solid year, 6 TDs and 800 yards, trending up.

WR3: Cordarrelle Patterson

CEILING: Patterson is used as a weapon, and scores 7 total TDs along with 800 total yards.

FLOOR: Patterson is not any good, he has only had one good fantasy year, and he scores zero TDs along with 186 total yards, like last year.

PREDICTION: Patterson has potential as a weapon, but I don’t think he is very good anymore. 1 TD, 190 total yards.

WR4: Javon Wims

CEILING: Wims passes Patterson, and becomes a solid WR3, scoring 4 TDs along with 600 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Wims repeats his 46.2 catch percentage, and is not good. Zero TDs, 200 yards.

PREDICTION: I just don’t think he is gonna do much. I’ll take 1 TD and 250 yards.

WR5: Riley Ridley

CEILING: Ridley wins the WR3 job, and scores 5 TDs along with 700 yards receiving.

FLOOR: He remains at WR5, and his brother Calvin disowns him.

PREDICTION: Ridley is going to win the WR3 spot. I am seeing 3 TDs and 550 yards.

WR6: Darnell Mooney WR7: Ted Ginn, Jr., WR8: Trevor Davis

CEILING: Any one of these guys could move as high as WR3, where they could see 3 TDs and 500 yards.

FLOOR: They are jumped at a sub sandwich shop at 2:00 AM in Chicago by guys in Trubisky masks.

PREDICTION: They should travel in threes because as we know, sandwich shops are the most dangerous places in Chicago for celebrities.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: Jimmy Graham

CEILING: Vintage Graham is long gone, but a 7 TD, 700 yard performance is not out of the question.

FLOOR: Graham is officially through, and he is passed on the depth chart by the youth. 1 TD, 200 yards.

PREDICTION: Graham looks done. He may have a year or two left, but not at what he used to be. 4 TDs, 400 yards.

TE2: Adam Shaheen

CEILING: 4 TDs, 400 yards. Both of which would be career-highs for Shaheen, who is heading into his fourth year.

FLOOR: No touches, no value, no reason for him to get the ball.

PREDICTION: Shaheen doesn’t offer much. Maybe 1 TD and 200 yards?

TE3: Cole Kmet

CEILING: Kmet adjusts to the NFL quickly, seizing the starting role, scoring 8 TDs along with 700 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Kmet can’t crack the top two spots. He spends the year learning, getting minimal touches. Zero TDs, 200 yards.

PREDICTION: Kmet will be one of the top two TEs by midseason, and will be more valuable moving past 2020. 3 TDs, 400 yards.

TE4: Demetrius Harris, TE5: Ben Braunecker, TE6: Jesper Horsted, TE7: Bradley Sowell

CEILING: The remaining tight ends start a podcast, and Coach Ditka joins them to talk Da Bears. Da Bulls, and all things Chicago. They still don’t have any catches.

FLOOR: They fail at podcasting. Ditka forces them to watch every single Bears game on the sideline.

PREDICTION: Why the heck does Chicago have so many tight ends? These seven are listed on footballguys.com. Turns out, there are actually more!
