The best time of the year is almost here with the 2020 NFL Draft soon approaching. People might be relieved of the stressors that Dynasty fantasy football tolls on the mind, while others are itching for more. The fantasy re-draft leaguers will have to wait until August-September to get their hands on their summer sleepers.

Although, the fantasy football community involved in dynasty leagues do not have to wait as long. After spending a good chunk of my last couple of days watching the combine, I thought it would only be appropriate to launch an updated dynasty QB article.

In this article, I present to you my top 25 options in dynasty leagues. As of now, most of these QB still have some good fantasy seasons left in them. In my rankings, I valued a few different things: Stability, Age, and Team Support. I would rank a player over the other if their age was a big difference. The NFL as a whole is seeing a new generation of star QB.

Less than 5 years ago, it was Brady, Rodgers, and Brees. Yes, they are still very good QB, but the NFL is now centered around Mahomes, Watson, and Jackson. Please enjoy reading who I have ranked in my top 25 QB. Make sure to check out 26-44 as well.

25. Philip Rivers

He didn’t look like he used to in 2019 and his stats may look better than they should from the help of Austin Ekeler. Ekeler bust on the scene with Gordon’s absence and could take a 3-yard dump-off for an 80 yard TD. I see the Chargers finding a QB in this draft to take over for Rivers either this year or next. However, Rivers will not be a Charger in 2020. They are moving on from the veteran. I believe that teams will have an interest in Rivers.

I can see the Buccaneers bringing him in. My belief is that I don’t think that Rivers is much different than Winston. They both throw way too many interceptions and personally, I think Winston is more accurate than Rivers. If Brady leaves, Rivers could be the next QB for the Patriots. Rivers is worth the hold in dynasty as we wait to see where he will play in 2020.

24. Ben Roethlisberger

Big Ben suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Week Two. Steelers struggled to get anything going on offense this season. I believe they had the worst offense in the league in 2019. Roethlisberger will be 38 in March and I feel that the 2020 season may be one of his last in the league. He has suffered substantial injuries in his career and it is time for the Steelers to move on to a younger QB.

Whether it be in the draft or free agency, I strongly recommend that the Steelers look for his replacement. Big Ben is believed to be throwing better post elbow surgery. If he can hook up with JuJu Smith-Schuster in 2020, it should spell fantasy success. In dynasty leagues, I would only see Big Ben as a plug and play guy and wouldn’t be a priority, unless I was able to grab him very late in drafts.

23. Kirk Cousins

Do you like that? Not really. Although Cousins is only 31, his days of being a fantasy viable QB are short. The Minnesota Vikings love to use Dalvin Cook for 30-35 times a game and just allow Cousins to make plays when asked. Cousins is very inconsistent and it is hard to tell what you will get from him week to week. He does have playmakers to throw in Adam Thielen & Stefon Diggs.

There are so many conflicting stories if Diggs will stay in the Twin Cities. I don’t think he will leave, but how much production does he expect to get on a run-first offense. Diggs is very talented and will help Cousins in the play-action game. With that being said, Cousins maybe just another Cook injury away from having to step up and be a point-producing QB. Will things change in 2020 or will Diggs continue to beg to be targeted more?

22. Daniel Jones

Danny Dimes was a hot pickup off the waiver wire when he torched the Bucs defense for 336 yards and two touchdowns. After this hot start, he sizzled down and was a plug-and-play fantasy QB. For this upcoming year, I would expect Daniel Jones to be fully ready to become the Giants starting QB for a handful of years. Jones eclipsed the 300-yard passing amount in five of his 13 games which is rather impressive for the talent level he had.

The question mark that could hold Danny back is his fumbling problem. Jones fumbled the ball 18 times– which is the most of any player in the NFL. If Jones can minimize these rookie mistakes he could be a steal in dynasty drafts.

21. Drew Lock

Drew Lock was putting on for Denver after going 4-1 for his first year in the NFL. People around the team are starting to wonder if Elway finally found his franchise quarterback and I believe the answer is yes. The kid showed Minshew level confidence with his starts through five being 7/3. Lock is a sleeper that can easily bust out a top 10 QB performance with surging stars Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant, along with having a top tier offensive coordinator to pave the way in Pat Shurmur. Lock is a great player to own in dynasty. The Broncos will bring in WR help through the draft. Lock has the skillset but needs more talent around him.

20. Sam Darnold

There is no doubt that there is inconsistency in Darnold’s game. He finished as the 27th fantasy QB in 2019 behind guys like Mitchell Trubisky & Jacoby Brissett. His stats may be a little skewed due to missing some weeks early in the season due to being sick with mono. Darnold is only 22 years old and has shown at times that he can be a starting QB in this league. I feel that Adam Gase is holding him back tremendously.

The Jets have many missing pieces on their offense. Their best offensive piece in Le’Veon Bell isn’t liked very much by Gase. Robby Anderson won’t likely return to the Jets in 2020. Darnold will lose his premier field-stretcher that helped him transition into the NFL his rookie year. Darnold’s age makes him an interesting option as a deeper option in a startup dynasty league.

19. Ryan Tannehill

Ryan Tannehill surged into the starting lineup after the Titans decided to switch personnel because of the lackluster performance of Marcus Mariota. Tannehill threw for 22 TD and six interceptions in his 10 games which exceed many expectations of him during his Miami days. I believe the Titans have found their franchise quarterback for the next five to seven years.

Tannehill is a free agent in 2020, and I think that he actually may test the waters. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t. He came in and led the Titans to the playoffs with Henry. I expect Henry to return to the Titans, which would help Tannehill continue to move the offense. A.J. Brown will be an absolute monster and continue to dominate with Tannehill throwing him the ball.

Tannehill under coach Vrabel will produce fantasy points in 2020. Tannehill will find a permanent home this offseason and if it is in Tennessee, consider as a QB for your dynasty team.

18. Tua Tagovailoa

After taking over for Jalen Hurts n the second half of the 2018 National Championship, many soon knew how great of a player he could be. Tua has had an unfortunate time with injuries the past 2 years, however, I don’t believe that it has hurt his draft stock. After undergoing hip surgery, Tua will be ready to throw for teams in April. I see Tua Tagovalioa being selected by the Miami Dolphins with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 Draft.

Tua will most likely get some young talent alongside him with the Dolphins having two more selections in the first round. He will also be welcomed by DeVante Parker who was a fantasy stud that helped owners win fantasy championships in 2019. Not to mention young receivers in Preston Williams and Mike Gesicki. There are concerns if Tagovailoa can remain healthy, however, if he can, there is a good chance that he can be a star in this league. Taking Tua at the right spots in drafts could pay off those who believe in him. Tua will compete with Burrow to be the top QB in dynasty drafts this summer.

17. Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy G coming into the 2019 season is recovering from an ACL tear that seemed like he would have a sub-par year. He doesn’t dazzle defenses or fans with anything out-of-the-ordinary, but he managed to put together a rather impressive 2019 campaign. The sixth-year quarterback finally played a full season and managed to throw for 3978/27/13. His stock will increase going into the 2020 season with a team that is red-hot and players that are buying into their role under Kyle Shanahan.

16. Drew Brees

Brees failed to make it to the promised land once again in 2019. However, in 2019 Brees became the all-time leader in passing TD breaking Manning’s record of 539. Brees continues his strong case to be selected to the Hall of Fame with the help of the league’s best receiver, Michael Thomas. Thomas was Brees’ go-to man which you have to be when you catch 149 balls in a season. It is not a question of what Brees can bring to your fantasy team.

However, at age 41 there are much better options in dynasty leagues as Brees is aging. He will play football in 2020 so that is a plus. I hope that the Saints use an early pick on a WR in this draft. I would love to see Laviska Shenault or Justin Jefferson line up across from Thomas in 2020. Brees will still be a Top 10 fantasy QB in 2020, however, his years left are limited. Youth is key in dynasty leagues unless you are in a true position to win now. Shoot that Brees owner a trade and ride Brees’ fantasy greatness in 2020.

15. Aaron Rodgers

Despite what it seemed to be a down year for Rodgers, he still finished as the QB 10 in 2019. Rodgers was without his top target, Davante Adams, for four games after leaving with an ankle injury in week four against the Eagles. Just a few years ago, Rodgers was the first QB off draft boards in most leagues. Injuries and lack of the receiving core around him have made him fall later in drafts.

Rodgers is 36 and I have a feeling that if the Packers bring in some pass catchers for him, we could see some top-five seasons from him still. Rodgers is a good target for those who won’t want to spend up at QB early in dynasty drafts.

14. Matthew Stafford

Stafford was having an MVP season before suffering a back injury that held him out for the rest of the 2019 season. Stafford still has it and there is no question about it. However, there is speculation that Stafford will want to leave town and be on a team that will help him win games. Kenny Golladay was a great big target for any Lions QB to target.

Stafford will return to the Lions in 2020 and continue to be a fantasy-relevant QB. Stafford is going later in start-up dynasty drafts and is very easy to acquire in trades as many are currently down on him. Grab Stafford and be happy for what he will bring to your dynasty teams.

13. Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield was the 2018 Rookie of the Year. The Brown’s offseason addition of Odell Beckham Jr. made many fantasy players happy with what Mayfield could do for them in 2019. Mayfield was a disappointment in 2019. He threw for 22 TD in 2019, however, he also had 21 interceptions. The Browns just hired Viking’s offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski to become their next head coach.

Stefanski believes that “the sky’s the limit” for his new QB. If OBJ and Landry stay in Cleveland, Mayfield could have a good chance of turning his career around. Mayfield is only 24 years old and could provide a high upside if you were to take a chance on him in your draft.

12. Joe Burrow

Coming off a National Championship at LSU, Burrow is projected to be the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Cincinnati would be foolish to not take the QB that just threw for 60 TD this season. Burrow will be welcomed by Tyler Boyd who has shown that he could make the transition much smoother for the Heisman winner. It is still in question if A.J. Green will return to the team.

Green has been riddled with injuries over the past 3 years but can produce fantasy points if healthy. I would assume that Burrow won’t be the only offensive rookie to be drafted by the Bengals as they will try to bring in one of the stud wide receivers in this draft class. Will the Bengals be able to bring in Justin Jefferson, Burrow’s top receiver in college?

Burrow could be one of the league’s brightest stars in the coming years. Geaux Bengals! I can’t believe scouts are concerned about Burrow’s hand size. Did they not watch any LSU games this year? The kid threw for 60 TD! His hand size doesn’t mean anything. I hope the Bengals don’t get cute and think that there is anyone else deserving of the first overall pick in 2020 NFL Draft. Burrow is the 1.01 in most rookie drafts and will find himself a great dynasty QB over time.

11. Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz is the type of player for the Eagles that will ball out, but as soon as they need him the most, he ends up on the sideline. Weak offensive weapons have been the keynote for the Eagles since week one when DeSean Jackson was out for the year. Alshon Jeffery was in and out the whole season and Agholor was dropping crucial catches. I believe there is the Carson Wentz that was once the MVP front-runner before a late-season ACL tear that can return to that high-level of excellence. Including the 2020 draft and free agency, I would expect the Eagles to make personnel changes to help relieve pressure off of Carson.

10. Jared Goff

Coming off a Super Bowl appearance in 2018, Goff and the Rams seem primed for a great 2019 season. Goff underperformed in 2019 in most people’s eyes and I would agree. He threw 10 less TD and four more interceptions in 2019 than he did in 2018. They couldn’t seem to get the offense going in the right direction all season. Goff would have a solid outing just to see him disappoint the following week. Goff’s receiving core was banged up for most of 2019, however expecting a healthy Kupp, Cooks, Woods, and Higbee in 2020.

Goff is only 25 and with the weapons around him, he could surely bounce back in 2020. The Rams will try to establish the run again in 2020 with Todd Gurley and this will open up the play-action game. Tyler Higbee will also help relieve the stress off of Goff’s shoulders as he continues to break the zone in the middle of the field. I would draft Goff in dynasty leagues hoping that with his talented receiver group that he turns in around under McVay.

9. Jameis Winston

Jameis Winston may be the worst-best fantasy QB we have ever witnessed. In 2019, Winston threw for 5,109 yards and 33 TD. Yes, those stats sound great if you play in leagues that don’t penalize you for turnovers and sacks. Winston threw 30 interceptions and fumbled the ball nine times in 2019. So how can he help your team? He has a two-headed monster receiving core in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. They both were on a tear before becoming injured. Evans had 67-1157-8 and Godwin had 86-1333-9. Godwin finished as the WR2 and Evans as the WR8 on the year in standard leagues.

If Winston can minimize the turnovers in 2020, we may be in store for a great season. Winston underwent Lasik surgery on his eye. Will this help the lower the turnovers? I would sure hope so. There is a risk of grabbing Winston in dynasty leagues because of his turnovers, but there is a good chance that he will continue to throw for 25+ TD a year. Understanding the risk with Winston and grabbing him later in drafts is a great approach.

8. Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan has been a consistent QB in the league over the last 5 years. Ryan had his best year in 2016 when he was named the NFL MVP. He finished as the 11th fantasy QB in 2019. He also has been a consistent top 10 QB most of his career, however, he lost his slot receiver, Mohamed Sanu, who was traded in week eight to the New England Patriots. I feel this is the reason Ryan moved out of the top 10 in 2019. Ryan still had his favorite receiver, Julio Jones, as he finished with 99 catches for 1,394 yards and six TD.

I believe that Calvin Ridley also takes the next step in 2020. Ridley and Jones could combine to absolutely torch defenses in 2020. Even at 34, his consistency makes him a great target in dynasty leagues. Not to mention a regular schedule of the Saints, Falcons, and Panthers twice a year which usually ends up as the highest scoring games on the week. Don’t be afraid to target Ryan in your dynasty drafts, you will be thankful for the return he has. Ryan still has some great fantasy years in him and you shouldn’t think twice about taking him as your top QB.

7. Kyler Murray

The 1st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft had a solid rookie year. He started all 16 games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. A Heisman winner out of Oklahoma known for his ability to make plays with his legs as well as his arm. The Cardinals hired Kliff Kingsbury to be their head coach and it soon felt that Murray and Kingsbury would be a hit together. Murray has Larry Fitzgerald returning for his 17th season and Christian Kirk as his top options in 2020.

The Cardinals will need to look for more pass catchers to surround Murray within 2020. Will the Cardinals bring in Oklahoma WR Ceedee Lamb? I would love to see Lamb join Murray in Arizona. Lamb would take Murray to the next level. Murray was behind a poor offensive line in 2019 that gave up 48 sacks. One thing positive, the Cardinals extended left tackle D.J. Humphries with a three-year $45 million deal. Many Cardinals fans are upset that they paid the tackle this kind of money.

However, the Cardinals will need to continue to fill the holes across their offensive line. They will need to look for more pass catchers to surround Murray within 2020 and I think the draft will be the place to address that need. He is primed to take a big jump in year two as we have seen with Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Murray has great value in dynasty drafts as he is only entering his second year and has much room to grow

6. Josh Allen

Josh Allen was surprisingly good in 2019. He finished as the QB6 in 2019. Going into 2019, it was expected the Allen could be fantasy relevant purely on his legs. However, Allen showed his arm in 2019 as John Brown emerged as his favorite target. John Brown produced very good fantasy numbers as Allen keep targeting him, especially in the red zone. I would love to see the Bills bring in another WR to help Allen, and this time not trade for Antonio Brown.

Devin Singletary will help Allen in 2020 as he continues to get better and learn behind Gore. The two strengths of Josh Allen are his legs and his arm which may be confused for a poor-mans Lamar Jackson. But, Josh Allen‘s weaknesses prohibit him from being one of the great QBs in this league. His accuracy is mediocre, which kills extended drives and fails to put points on the board. Another weakness of Josh Allen is composure.

When the going gets tough, he and his fellow draft classmate start to see ghosts. However, Allen’s young age and physical attributes are still getting settled into the NFL, and I believe with more offensive weapons he can easily be a top 5 QB in dynasty leagues for years to come.

5. Russell Wilson

Wilson signed a 4-year extension with the Seahawks before the 2019 season. Wilson lost one of his favorite receivers in Doug Baldwin when he retired the last offseason. The team went out and brought in a physical specimen out of Ole Miss with D.K. Metcalf. Wilson is 31 and in the prime of his career. He has two great receivers in Tyler Lockett and Metcalf. He can also escape the pocket and added 342 yards on the ground in 2019.

The only downside is that Pete Caroll loves to run the ball. The emergence of Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny has hurt Wilson’s fantasy stats as he doesn’t have to beat most teams with his arm.f this was a conversation between the best QB in the NFL Wilson would be in my Top 3. He is a great QB that can put the ball in places that I haven’t seen many QB put it. Russ can escape sacks like a magician and find D.K. or Lockett 50 yards down the field for a score.

It is such a shame that Carroll loves to run the ball as much as he does. That is old school football though–run the ball and play defense. However, Wilson is still fantasy viable because of his true ability and the receivers around him. He would be a great addition to your dynasty team if you would rather wait a little longer to take a QB.

4. Dak Prescott

Dakota Prescott is coming off his best season with the Cowboys statistically by throwing for 4902 yards, 30 TD, and 11 INT. These numbers crush his previous three years by averaging more than 1000 yards throwing and eight more TD. The offensive explosion was due to their newly acquired OC Kellen Moore and many wonder how the hire of Mike McCarthy is going to bode with Dak.

There should not be any panic as of yet, as long as Moore is still with the team, the combination of him and McCarthy will produce fantasy gold for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. If Dak ends up leaving Dallas, I still think he has the skill set to be a top fantasy QB. I do think Dak will be back in Dallas unless they somehow land Brady, which may not even be a target for them. With Dak back in Dallas in 2020, I can see him find a new favorite WR in Michael Gallup. Prescott can help your dynasty teams tremendously if he stays in Dallas.

3. Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson is entering his fourth year as the starting QB for the Houston Texans. Besides for a non-contact injury he suffered his rookie year, there have been no doubts about the player he is. He has led the Texans to the playoffs in 2018 and 2019. In 2018 and 2019, he was selected to the Pro Bowl. Watson’s favorite target is All-Pro receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. Watson also has young talent in Will Fuller and Kenny Stills.

Watson adds a rushing upside and had seven rushing TD in 2019. He is a young star that could easily emerge as a top QB in dynasty leagues. Grabbing Watson a little later than Jackson and Mahomes is a good approach as you start your team off with a great RB or WR. Watson is one of my favorite QB to own in dynasty leagues.

2. Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson? You mean the guy everyone thought should play wide receiver. Lamar Jackson took the league by storm in 2019. Jackson was a First-Team All-Pro Quarterback and won the 2019 NFL MVP award. He threw for 3,127 yards and league-leading 36 passing TDs. Better yet, he ran for 1,206 yards and added seven TD on the ground. The only concern for him is the lack of the receiving core around him. Mark Andrews emerged as his top target last season. Lamar also used Mark Ingram in the screen game from time to time.

The Ravens will still need to target other pass catchers for Jackson this offseason. His style of play will make it hard for defenses to prepare for him in years to come. Marquise Brown will grow a strong bond with Lamar going forward but I would still like to see the Ravens find a WR in the draft. Even without Lamar’s arm, his rushing upside per week is a great floor for your fantasy teams. I hope Lamar stays healthy with his style of play and remains a top dynasty QB option.

1.Patrick Mahomes

The 2018 NFL MVP turns 25 in September. The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to offer Mahomes a contract that would exceed over $40 million a year. Mahomes is surrounded by targets like Tyreek Hill who can stretch the field and is under contract till 2023. Mahomes also has 2019 All-Pro Tight End Travis Kelce under contract till 2022. Not many quarterbacks can throw for 4 passing TD in a quarter like he has done time after time.

With Hill and Kelce, Mahomes won’t have any problems with a lack of talent in his receiving core. Also, add Damien Williams to the mix because of his involvement in the screen game. Not only is Mahomes a great QB but he also has great talent around him. Mahomes can easily dominate the league for the next 10 years barring any injury. Mahomes showed the world how great he was as he led the Chiefs to victory against the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

I wouldn’t argue with anyone who would want to start their dynasty teams with Mahomes as their QB. He can go as high as the first pick in super-flex drafts. The Super Bowl MVP will continue to be my top dynasty QB for years to come.
