Four College Basketball Picks for Tuesday’s Slate

As the football season has come to an end, everyone needs something else to gamble on. Why not some College hoops? We have just over a month until March Madness begins, so why not start checking out some teams while putting some wagers on the game? There are five ranked teams in play tonight including a top 25 battle in the Big 12. Let’s prepare to fill in our brackets by winning some money on some great college basketball matchups.

Notre Dame (+7.5) Versus Duke

In our first game, we have two teams that have struggled mightily all season. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Durham to take on the Duke Blue Devils. Duke is coming off of a disappointing home loss to their rival North Carolina. Duke’s season, in general, has just been a disappointment and I don’t see it getting better this afternoon. Even if Duke wins this game outright, which I don’t know if they can, they have an abysmal 3-11 record against the spread this season. Notre Dame, on the other hand, has had one positive outlook to their disappointing season. The Irish are 5-3 against the spread away from home. With this particular statistic and the Blue Devils still crushed from their loss on Saturday, I like Notre Dame. Take the Irish +7.5.

Arkansas (ML -106) Versus Kentucky

In this matchup, we have the surging Arkansas Razorbacks taking on the disgusting KeNITucky Wildcats. Yes, I added the NIT to Kentucky but at this point, I don’t even know if they’ll even qualify for that. Kentucky has been just awful this year. The Wildcats have a record of 5-12, 6-11 against the spread, and 2-6 against the spread at home. Not only do all of these numbers just scream “bet against Kentucky!” but they’ve also have lost four of their last five. Arkansas on the other hand is 14-5, 11-7 against the spread and have won four of their last five. Coach Eric Musselman has the Razorbacks playing great basketball and I love them as a sleeper going into the tournament. I like freshman standout, Moses Moody to have a night in Lexington. I really don’t understand how Kentucky is even favored in this game. Take the Razorbacks outright as a Moneyline underdog.

#14 West Virginia (+5.5) Versus #7 Texas Tech

With our only ranked matchup of the night, we have Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers traveling to Lubbock, Texas to take on Chris Beards’ Texas Tech Red Raiders. When looking at this game, I was very surprised the spread was this high. I was also confused when I saw the rankings this week with Texas Tech being ranked seven spots ahead of West Virginia. I’m confused because they have the same number of losses and West Virginia actually just beat Texas Tech just two weeks ago. I don’t know if the AP is being biased because of star Mac McClung, but I see great value in the Mountaineers tonight. Texas Tech is 7-11 against the spread on the season and 4-8 against the spread at home. West Virginia is 9-8 against and like I said earlier, just beat this Red Raiders team two weeks ago. Look for the Wooden Award nominee, Derek Culver (14.3 PPG, 10.3 RPG) to propel the Mountaineers to a close battle in Lubbock. Take the Mountaineers at +5.5.

St. John’s (ML -105) Versus Butler

For my last pick of the night, I’m going with the Red Storm of St. John’s to beat the Butler Bulldogs straight up. St. John’s has been the hottest team in basketball in the last month. The Red Storm are on a six-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight, including a double-digit win over the Butler Bulldogs. Butler on the other hand has slowly regressed over the season. The Bulldogs are 6-10 on the season, 7-9 against the spread, and have lost three of their last four. St. John’s could be the biggest sleeper in college basketball. Look for rising star, sophomore guard, Julian Champagnie (19.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG) to keep the Red Storm’s winning streak going tonight. Take St. John’s outright.
