Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 8

It is now time for fantasy basketball waiver wire: week 8. Happy Super Bowl Hangover! The game was very dominant and one-sided. If you want to conquer like the Buccaneers in your fantasy basketball league, here are some pickups to watch. We have a trade, some more injuries, and players that are still available in most leagues that shouldn’t be.

As always, do not feel obligated to pick up anyone if you do not have room on your roster. I will be providing weekly waiver wire pickup suggestions that are mainly for nine-category leagues. The picks are based on players being rostered in less than 30-percent of fantasy basketball teams. Here are some waiver wire pickups for week 8.

PG T.J. McConnell, IND (@BKN, @DET, @ATL)

The Pacers still play T.J. McConnell off the bench, but that has not stopped him from being extremely effective. T.J. averaged 6.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 10.0 assists, and 2.0 steals through four games this past week. He is still only owned in less than 21-percent of leagues. If you need any extra help with assists and steals, T.J. may be the guy to help you win those categories.

PG/SG Derrick White, SA (GS, GS, @ATL, @CHA)

I wrote about Derrick White last week, but he is still owned in less than 24-percent of leagues. He is here so I can emphasize the pickup again. Derrick White should and will be rostered soon unless if you pick him up first. White has averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 assists, 1.8 three-pointers made, and 1.4 blocks in only 24 minutes so far this year. He is now the starting shooting guard and should produce better numbers with his minutes increasing every game. He has four games on the horizon giving him good opportunities to produce.

SG/SF Josh Jackson, DET (BKN, IND, @BOS, NO)

This past week Josh Jackson averaged 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists while shooting 47-percent from the field. Derrick Rose was traded, but Rose didn’t affect Jackson’s minutes. Even so, I think the trade shows Detroit’s willingness to see what they have with their current misfit of players. I believe Jackson will continue to get ample playing time off the bench barring any more trades. He should be a good source for scoring especially with four games this week.

SF Juan Toscano-Anderson, GS (@SA, @SA, ORL, BKN)

James Wiseman is going to be reevalulated on Wednesday. So in the meantime, Juan Toscano-Anderson will continue to play big minutes with the Warriors opting to start a small ball lineup. Tuscano-Anderson averaged 10.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1 block and 1 steal while shooting 72-percent from the field. He’s not the flashiest of players, but getting alot of playing time for the uptempo Warriors does bring value to his name until Wiseman comes back. The Warriors have four games this week.

SF/PF Darius Bazley, OKC (@LAL, @LAL, @DEN, MIL)

Darius Bazley is now starting to play with a little consistency after having a long stretch of ineffective games. This past week, Bazley averaged 14.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.3 three-pointers made. He is still only owned in less than 26-percent of leagues. We just need him to be consistent, but the upside is still there to produce. The Thunder have four games this week against tough competition. The Thunder will need Bazley to produce if they want to have a chance to win.

SF/PF Patrick Williams, CHI (WAS, NO, LAC)

Patrick Williams is currently the youngest player in the NBA. His upside is extremely high and he’s finally starting to show some consistency. Williams averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 56-percent from the field this past week. With news coming out that Lauri Markkanen will be missing the next 2-4 weeks, Williams can keep playing his natural power forward position where he continues to play his best ball. Williams is a very solid fantasy contributor until Lauri comes back.

PF/C Kelly Olynyk, MIA (NY, @HOU, @UTAH)

Kelly Olynyk is very reliable as the starting power forward on the Heat. This past week, Olynyk averaged 12.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3 three-pointers made while shooting 49% from the field. You know what you’re getting with Oylynk yet he is still only owned in around 20-percent of leagues. He can help in three-pointers made, points, and rebounds. His ceiling is capped, but his floor is extremely high. If you have room and need some extra help in those categories, you can do a lot worse.

C Jakob Poetl, SA (GS, GS, @ATL, @CHA)

Jakob Poetl is due for a minutes increase with Lamarcus Aldridge out with an injury. In the past two games as a starter, Poetl averaged 11 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks. Similar to Olynyk, he does not have a high ceiling, but a high floor. Poetl has four games this upcoming week and can help provide value in rebounds and blocks until Aldridge returns.
