Cleveland, where sports fans are tough, because they have to be. What the hell happened to Baker in 2019? And the Browns? Odell is like the Dennis Rodman of football with that hair. Some of these players give me a Chubb. Guess which ones? In case you missed it, last time we covered the Cincinnati Bengals. Today, we go to The Land, to see if we can help heal the abandonment issues LeBron created. Again.
QB:
Baker Mayfield: Passing: 337/515-4,023 Yds, 28 TD:14 INT
Rushing: 26-107-1 TD: 2 FMBL
Standard: 273.62 (18)
0.5 PPR: 273.62 (18)
1 PPR: 273.62 (18)
Case Keenum: Passing: Plenty of warm up throws on the sideline.
Rushing: Fast, out of the tunnel, every week.
Unless Baker gets hurt, there is no fantasy value here. He is quite the handcuff though.
Baker Mayfield’s 2019 season was an outlier. Don’t expect a repeat. Also, don’t expect me to explain why that happened. I can’t. Maybe it’s just the Browns. But I know Baker is talented, and there is so much talent on this offense. I fully expect Baker to return to form, and while I don’t believe he is elite, he is an excellent QB2/Superflex option. Also, I will note I have him 6 fantasy points below my QB15, so there is not a lot of differentiation between him and the guys close to him. I could see him pushing top 12.
Keenum is a handcuff option only. He will not play unless Baker is hurt. That being said, he would instantly be playable if Baker goes down. There are just so many weapons and toys to play with. Also, do not play with weapons. Life advice for the day.
RB:
Nick Chubb: Rushing:280-1,411-10 TD: 1 FMBL
Receiving: 40 targets, 31 catches, 249 Yds, 1 TD
Standard: 231 (6)
0.5 PPR: 246.5 (7)
1 PPR: 262 (10)
Kareem Hunt: Rushing: 80-345-2 TD:1 FMBL
Receiving: 65 targets, 51 catches, 452 Yds, 4 TD
Standard: 114.7 (40)
0.5 PPR: 140.2 (36)
1 PPR: 165.7 (34)
The Chubb/Hunt backfield is so good, I can’t even justify giving any touches to Hilliard. I fully expect Chubb to compete for the rushing title again in 2020. What’s not to like about this beast? A career 5.1 yards per carry average, back to back 8 rushing TD campaigns. Chubb is an animal. Hunt isn’t too shabby either, but his value resides more in the PPR formats. Gimme exposure to Chubb all day, especially since he is consistently ranked lower by most than where I have him. In PPR, I am gonna target Hunt too. Think of him as the WR3 who will get carries.
I’m gonna be on the Hunt for some Chubb in 2020! You dirty minds, I of course mean saint Nick.
WR:
Jarvis Landry: Rushing: 2-18
Receiving: 120 targets, 77 catches, 1,019 Yds, 7 TD: 2 FMBL
Standard: 143.7 (21)
0.5 PPR: 182.2 (20)
1 PPR: 220.7 (19)
Odell Beckham: Rushing: 1-9
Receiving: 125 targets, 75 catches, 1,078 Yds, 6 TD: 1 FMBL
Standard: 143.7 ( 22)
0.5 PPR: 181.2 (22)
1 PPR: 218.7 (21)
Rashard Higgins: Receiving: 16 targets, 9 catches, 117 Yds, 1 TD: 1 FMBL
Standard: 16.7 (133)
0.5 PPR: 21.2 (132)
1 PPR: 25.7 (134)
Damion Ratley: Receiving: 9 targets, 5 catches, 71 Yds
Standard: 7.1 (150)
0.5 PPR: 9.6 (150)
1 PPR: 12.1 (151)
Donovan Peoples-Jones: Receiving: 25 targets, 14 catches, 163 Yds, 1 TD
Standard: 22.3 (116)
0.5 PPR: 29.3 (115)
1 PPR: 36.3 (114)
Another stellar 1-2 punch at WR, Landry and Beckham should deliver the kind of results you want from your WR. Neither is elite because of the presence of the other, but both will be on my squads heading into 2020. I will get exposure to Landry more, as Odell still seems to have a higher ADP, but I am happy landing either.
As for the rest of the WR corps, Peoples-Jones not only has an awesome name, but he has some excellent dynasty potential. None of the other guys get me too excited, simply because of the presence of Hunt and the two excellent tight ends on the Browns roster. Target the studs, ignore the duds.
TE:
Austin Hooper: Receiving: 65 targets, 46 catches, 540 Yds, 5 TD
Standard: 84 (16)
0.5 PPR: 107 (18)
1 PPR: 130 (19)
David Njoku: Receiving: 50 targets, 29 catches, 329 Yds, 3 TD
Standard: 50.9 (31)
0.5 PPR: 65.4 (31)
1 PPR: 79.9( 31)
Harrison Bryant: Receiving: None unless Njoku is traded
Bryant has upside for the future, but the acquisition of Hooper and the presence of Njoku make me think he gets no looks this year.
Hooper is an excellent option at TE, and could outperform his projections. Heck, so could Njoku if he stays. They are both excellent tight ends. The Browns have a strong 1-2 punch at TE also. The only reason they aren’t ranked higher is because they are both there. I like them both, love them as later targets at TE for their upside, and wouldn’t blame anyone for acquiring them as a pair.
I project the Browns to score 1,256.22 points in a 0.5 PPR format, which ranks 18th. As far as who I am after, I have so much exposure to Chubb, and Landry to a slightly lesser extent. I also have shares of Baker, Beckham, and Hooper/Njoku. This is an offense that, if you can land the right guys, will reward you handsomely this fantasy season.
