Buy Low on Chris Godwin

Chris Godwin isn’t a very exciting name right now. He had his breakout season in 2019 but hasn’t had a top-15 fantasy finish since. However, this has been because of injury, not a lack of performance. Many fantasy managers have a “What have you done for me lately?” attitude and a lot of that is based on season-long finishes. Over the past 3 years, he has finished as the WR 31, 16, and 19. However, that’s with missing at least 2 games per season. He is often being sold for a mid-to-late 2023 1st right now. If you look at his production when on the field, you’ll realize you should buy low on Chris Godwin.

Chris Godwin

History

As I have just mentioned, Chris Godwin is great when on the field. His per-game finishes in PPR leagues:

2019: WR2 (19.7 PPG)

2020: WR15 (15.9 PPG)

2021: WR8 (17.3 PPG)

2022: WR17 (14.9 PPG)

WR17 may not be great for the 2022 season, but context matters. The context is that he was coming back from an ACL injury and was limited to start the season and was recovering throughout the season. If you look at the second half of the season where he was much healthier, he was the WR8 per game.

This Upcoming Season

In addition to having mediocre end-of-season finishes, the other big knock on Chris Godwin is the new QB. Tom Brady, though not who he used to be, is still a Hall of Famer QB who threw the ball a lot. That volume will likely go down drastically with Baker Mayfield likely leading that offence. However, I am more concerned about Mike Evans than Chris Godwin. Baker Mayfield isn’t a great deep passer but he can still do enough to give volume to the closer receiver, who will be Chris Godwin.

Injury may be another concern, but we saw from the end of the 2023 season that he looked great.

Wrap-Up

Chris Godwin is being ranked outside of the top 60 when including rookies and many have him even lower. For a guy who has regularly been a WR1 on the field and who isn’t old yet, I think you should buy low on Chris Godwin.
