Can Jonathan Taylor Continue To Be Called A Top Back?

How is it going everyone, MadTitan here again and I want to address Jonathan Taylor‘s very high ranking. FantasyPros has him #4 overall in Dynasty single QB leagues, but is that too high for a sophomore RB? There are many factors that could either help or hurt his value in Fantasy, but no worry, I will try to help you with that. I may not be able to convince because if you’re like me, you don’t want to think that your potential best RB could be effected by XYZ.

NFL Start

Jonathan Taylor was drafted 40th overall by the Indianapolis Colts and was not supposed to be starter and then Marlon Mack got injured and he was thrown into the wolves and was immediately productive.

I would say that is a very good rookie season for Taylor, and he is a very consistent player with good size to run through people and speed to breakaway. He has very good vision and takes his time through the holes. Of course there are times where he doesn’t see a hole, but who is perfect. His speed and size with the ability to run through defenders as well as make them miss makes him likable.

Why I Don’t Like His ADP

Taylor is ranked number 4 overall in FantasyPros dynasty rankings and in the above, I showed you his rookie year and how often they used him. Mind you that was with Phillip Rivers who they didn’t trust much as per their 1-year contract with him. They brought in Carson Wentz and as I am sure you know, Reich was Wentz’s OC with the Eagles. In Philadelphia, they threw the ball a lot. Reich is back with Wentz and I can say that Hines will be in more than people want, which will be frustrating to Fantasy Owners. In 2018, with Luck as QB, they threw the ball 600+ times and didn’t run much. Yes they didn’t have Taylor, but when you have a QB you like, you will throw the ball. I can easily see them throwing the ball with a 70-30 split with Hines in for at least 25% of those plays.

Where I Think He Should Be

I don’t think Taylor is warranted #4 overall player in 1-QB Dynasty leagues. He is good, but not #4 overall in Dynasty. He is a talented back, however, with Wentz as QB there and Reich very adamant about wanting him since he got in Indy, they will throw the ball more and it will hurt Taylor. Now, how far will he drop to? I think his ceiling is last year production and his floor would compare to Antonio Gibson’s rookie year. That is far from a low floor, but also not close to being worthy of his #4 overall rank.
