Ceilings and Floors: Los Angeles Chargers

This is the 16th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We finish up the AFC West with The Los Angeles Chargers. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Las Vegas Raiders. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Tyrod Taylor

CEILING: Taylor takes advantage of his many weapons, and has a great year, allowing Herbert time to prepare to take over. 25 passing TDs, 7 rushing TDs, 3,300 yards passing, 700 yards rushing, and a real argument to start in 2021.

FLOOR: Taylor loses the gig to Herbert before the season begins, becoming a super backup once again.

PREDICTION: Taylor should start, giving Herbert the time to adjust to the NFL. If he starts the entire year, though, I will be shocked. He is useful as QB depth, preferably with Herbert attached to him. I will guess 4 games, where he has 5 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD, along with 790 yards passing and 130 yards rushing. He should not be starting for too long.

QB2: Justin Herbert

CEILING: Herbert wins the job preseason, proving himself NFL ready very early. He makes a run at Rookie of the Year, throwing 32 TDs along with 3,500 yards. He also adds 5 TDs and 250 yards rushing.

FLOOR: He sits all year, learning the offense and adjusting to his new scenario, before starting in 2021.

PREDICTION: He is going to start at some point. I think his 16 game numbers will look like 28 TDs, 3,200 yards, along with 2 rushing TDs and 150 yards. He is very valuable in dynasty leagues.

QB3: Easton Stick

CEILING: His ceiling is people confusing him for Herbert, and ask for his autograph.

FLOOR: Kids crying when they realize their football says Easton Stick instead of Justin Herbert on it.

PREDICTION: Easton Stick starts signing Justin Herbert on all the autographs.

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: Austin Ekeler

CEILING: Ekeler gets the snaps of a featured back, and explodes with 15 total TDs and 1,900 total yards.

FLOOR: Ekeler remains in a RBBC situation, and manages 6 TDs along with 1,000 total yards.

PREDICTION: Ekeler is no secret anymore, but I see him getting better this year. 12 total TDs, 1,600 yards is pretty good.

RB2: Justin Jackson

CEILING: Jackson serves as a reliable RB2, scoring 7 total TDs along with 1,000 total yards.

FLOOR: Jackson is passed on the depth chart and never gets anything going. 0 TD, 180 yards.

PREDICTION: Kelley is right there waiting. I think Jackson is a solid RB2 for some teams, but I believe Kelley will become a bigger contributor. 3 TDs, 500 total yards.

RB3: Joshua Kelley

CEILING: Kelley starts the year as RB2, and forms a dynamic 1-2 punch with Ekeler, scoring 9 TDs to go with 1,200 total yards.

FLOOR: Kelley doesn’t manage to unseat Jackson, and is used minimally. 1 TD, 120 yards.

PREDICTION: I think I like Kelley here, he is better than Jackson and should get some opportunities. 6 TDs, 800 yards.

RB4: Darius Bradwell

CEILING: He is allowed to lead the team out of the tunnel during a Home game.

FLOOR: He cant even get snaps on special teams.

PREDICTION: His parents are going to be so proud of him if he approaches his ceiling.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: Keenan Allen

CEILING: 10 TDs, 1,500 yards, and a breakout fantasy year for Allen.

FLOOR: 6 TDs and 1,001 yards, marking the fourth straight year he eclipses 1,000 yards but only scores 6 times.

PREDICTION: I will take 6 TDs, 1,200 yards. Allen is an excellent receiver, but he doesn’t score consistently.

WR2: Mike Williams

CEILING: 13 TDs, 1,400 scrimmage yards, and WR1 status for L.A.

FLOOR: 3 TDs, 900 yards, and real concern for his dynasty owners.

PREDICTION: I must admit, I am high on Williams. He is a physical freak. He has already recorded an 11 TD season, and a 1,000 yard season. so I will take 8 TDs and 1,100 yards and love every minute of it.

WR3: Andre Patton

CEILING: He emerges as yet another red-zone threat for the Chargers, scoring 6 TDs along with 500 yards.

FLOOR: He crashes down the depth chart, until his fantasy value reaches zero.

PREDICTION: He is big, he might catch a few TDs. 2 TDs,

WR4: Darius Jennings

CEILING: Emerges as a slot threat, scoring 5 TDs with 600 yards.

FLOOR: He doesn’t see the field, the younger guys pass him.

PREDICTION: He will be on the outside looking in, but he will score once, adding 200 yards.

WR5: Joe Reed

CEILING: 7 TDs, 800 yards, and the clear WR3 for 2020.

FLOOR: Struggles to see the field, Taylor and/or Herbert look to other guys more, and he has a disappointing rookie season with 0 TDs, 250 yards.

PREDICTION: Reed is going to get some snaps. I see 4 TDs, 500 yards, and an upward trend in the future with Herbert.

WR6: K.J. Hill

CEILING: Hill continues catching balls, just like he did at Ohio State, where he is the all-time receptions leader. 5 TDs, 700 yards.

FLOOR: Hill lacks the athleticism and strength to compete at this level, and never puts it all together.

PREDICTION: I think Hill becomes a solid depth guy. I doubt he ends the year as WR6, the guy has great hands. I like 2 TDs, 300 yards.

WR7: Jason Moore, WR8: Dalton Schoen, WR9: Jeff Cotton

CEILING: One catch.

FLOOR: Zero catches. Zero snaps. Zero hope.

PREDICTION: The only thing they are gonna catch are rays of sun in L.A.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: Hunter Henry

CEILING: Henry stays healthy, and solidifies his elite standing among TEs with 10 TDs and 850 yards.

FLOOR: Henry doesn’t perform due to injuries, new or previous, and misses the year.

PREDICTION: The talent is obvious, but the injury history is scary at his age. I think he plays well in 2020 and stays healthy. 8 TDs, 700 yards.

TE2: Virgil Green

CEILING: 1 TD, 237 yards, which would match career highs for the veteran entering his 10th year in the league.

FLOOR: 0 TDs, 100 yards, TE3.

PREDICTION: Nothing to see here folks. His ceiling and floor look way too similar.

TE3: Stephen Anderson

CEILING: 2 TDs, 400 yards, TE2 status.

FLOOR: Zero anything, which is exactly what happened last year in the one game he played.

PREDICTION: If Henry goes down, The Chargers are in serious trouble at TE. They will address this before next season begins. Herbert needs a reliable TE.
