Fantasy Football

Chief On Rolling: MNF Fantasy Studs/Duds

Described as “the toughest division in football” by most, the AFC West has been a complete disappointment. Sure, we have the Los Angeles Chargers who are off to a 3-2 start. The Denver Broncos (somehow) is 2-3. Kansas City continues to be the Kansas City Chiefs of old, even without Tyreek Hill. But, then we have the Las Vegas Raiders, who beat Denver in week four.

Monday night was a contest between the best and worst in the AFC West. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs welcomed the Raiders into their home, and this game… was actually close?

For one, Derek Carr actually didn’t throw an interception! Davante Adams toasted Kansas City’s secondary with 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

But, the Chiefs are the Chiefs for a reason. Patrick Mahomes led his team back from a 10-point deficit to win 30-29 over the Raiders. Let’s dive into the best and worst fantasy performances from this game.

Stud Of The Game: Travis Kelce, TE, KC

Projected to score 17.8 PPR points against Las Vegas, Travis Kelce put on a show with just 25 receiving yards?

Yes, you read that correctly. Kelce was held to just seven catches for 25 yards. So, how is he the MNF fantasy star of the week?

He scored not one, not two, not three, but FOUR touchdowns. You would think the Raiders’ defense would figure out a way to shut him down after a couple of scores. Wrong, as Kelce feasted all over them and scored 33.5 PPR points for his fantasy owners.

On a team with few reliable targets, it always helps to stick with those you’re familiar with. Kelce has been with Mahomes for years now, and their chemistry was on full display against their division rival.

Other Studs: Patrick Mahomes (30.48), Josh Jacobs (30.3), Davante Adams (27.4)

Dud Of The Game: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, Chiefs

Not every player from the Chiefs was outstanding for fantasy managers. Edwards-Helaire is a good example.

The running back has been outstanding throughout four weeks for the Chiefs, scoring at least 14.9 fantasy points in every matchup. It looked like he was going to have another great performance against the Raiders, who had an average run defense.

Well, Edwards-Helaire only finished with nine carries for 15 yards and also recorded three receptions for 20 yards. Not very exciting to see from a fantasy RB1, especially when Jerick McKinnon and Patrick Mahomes outrush you.

Let’s face it, we never know with this Kansas City offense. They have three solid running backs, with Edwards-Helaire, McKinnon, and rookie Isiah Pacheco. Any one of them could show out every week.

However, this may be just a game where CEH could not get things rolling, and McKinnon stepped in and picked up the slack. It would not be a surprise to see Edwards-Helaire be his usual self again against Buffalo this week and score double-digit fantasy points.

Other Duds: Hunter Renfrow (6.5), Juju Smith-Schuster (6.3), Mack Hollins (0.0)
