DeAndre Hopkins Signing for Fantasy

It was recently announced that DeAndre Hopkins is signing with the Tennessee Titans. Here are my thoughts on the impacts of the DeAndre Hopkins signing for fantasy.

Quarterbacks

Tannehill had back-to-back seasons as a QB1 when he had AJ Brown. Being able to put up a decent number of yards on the ground helped as well. He had a down year last year with injuries to himself and his weapons. Now that he has DeAndre Hopkins, Treylon Burks, Chigoziem Okonkwo, and Derrick Henry as his core weapons, I think a QB1 finish is easily on the table again.

I expect the Titans to be competitive this year. That means that I don’t see Malik Willis starting unless he’s actually good or unless Ryan misses time. Because he has also shown the ability to add yards on the ground, I think he could also be a low-end QB1 if he ends up starting. For dynasty, this could increase his value as he could be set up for more success in future seasons if he does take the job.

DeAndre Hopkins

Tannehill shown that in Tenessee, he doesn’t put up a lot of passing yards. Because of how run-heavy that Titans offence is, I don’t expect this to change much. I do expect DeAndre Hopkins to get a 25% target share, but even then, he could still just be a WR2 or WR3 with that limited passing volume. It is possible they throw more because of the weapons, that he gets hyper-targeted, and that he ends up with a bunch of touchdowns. So I think a WR1 finish is possible, but still not likely.

The Others

This could help Derrick Henry if defences now need to respect the passing offence more. However, this will hurt the other receivers as they just lost their portion of an already small pie. Sure they may be more open, but I think Treylon Burks and Chigoziem Okonkwo will either be bench players or maybe streamable for fantasy.

Wrap-Up

In 1QB leagues, whoever the Titans QB is, should be streamable. I would be happy to have them in a Superflex league. Derrick Henry gets a slight bump too. I think this move signifies a downgrade for all the other fantasy options on the Titans roster. Though I think this does hurt Burks a lot, it could make for a buy-low opening for rebuilding teams. What do you think of the DeAndre Hopkins signing for fantasy?
