DEF/ST Fantasy Football: DAWGS Or FRAUDS Week 4

Week 4 has just finished, and we will look back at the best and worst DEF/ST Fantasy Football performances of the week. Take note that we are using Sleeper’s PPR scoring system for this analysis.

Golden DAWG: San Francisco 49ers 22 FP

1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, 1 Defense TD, 7 Sacks, 1 Interception, 7-13 Points Allowed (Projected: 9.24 FP)

The 49ers’ defense gave Matthew Stafford trouble during their matchup

The San Francisco 49ers’ defense gave Matthew Stafford fits in their matchup in Week 4. The defense sacked Stafford seven times, and Talanoa Hufanga had a pick-6 which sealed the win for the 49ers. Look for San Francisco to lean on its defense to make their push to the playoffs. They were the best performers of the DEF/ST in fantasy football

Silver DAWG: Philadelphia Eagles 18 FP

3 Forced Fumbles, 3 Fumble Recoveries, 1 Interception, 4 Sacks, 14-20 Points Allowed (Projected: 9.52 FP)

The Eagles’ pressure affected Trevor Lawrence in his worst game of the year

The Eagles’ defense showed why they are one of the best units in football. Haason Reddick led the way with a couple of sacks, and Trevor Lawrence looked uncomfortable throughout the day. The Eagles’ defense is the best D/ST in fantasy so look for them to continue their dominance.

Bronze DAWG: New York Giants 17 FP

3 Forced Fumbles, 2 Fumble Recoveries, 1 Special Teams Fumble Recovery, 6 Sacks, 7-13 Points Allowed (Projected: 9.44 FP)

The Giants had six sacks on Justin Fields in their win over the Bears

The New York Giants’ defense made Justin Fields run for his life in their win over the Bears. Fields was pressured 51% of the time, and it led to six sacks. Dexter Lawrence led the way with two sacks. The Giants’ defense has only allowed 20, 16, 23, and 12 points which has helped them in their 3-1 record to start the year.

Golden FRAUD: Detroit Lions -2 FP

35+ Points Allowed, 1 Special Teams Fumble Recovery, 1 Special Teams Forced Fumble (Projected: 7.42 FP)

The Lions’ defense had no answer for Rashaad Penny

The Detroit Lions’ defense was non-existent in their loss to the Seahawks 48-45. Rashaad Penny dominated with 151 rushing yards and two TDs. Detroit has been in a lot of shootouts to start the year. They will need the defense to step up, as they have allowed 38, 27, 28, and 48 points in games that could be winnable for the Lions. The Lions have been the worst D/ST team in fantasy.

Silver FRAUD: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1 FP

35+ Points Allowed, 1 Interception, 3 Sacks (Projected: 7.53 FP)

The Chiefs’ offense exploded for 41 points in their win against Tampa Bay

Patrick Mahomes was a man on a mission, and he torched the Tampa Bay defense in their matchup. The Chiefs’ offense was ahead from the start and didn’t let go as they scored 41 points on the Buccaneers. Look for Tampa Bay to bounce back when they face the Falcons next week.

Bronze FRAUD: Miami Dolphins 1 FP

21-27 Points Allowed, 1 Sack (Projected: 7.36 FP)

Tee Higgins looked dominant against the Miami defense

Miami’s defense had no answer for the Bengals in their loss on Thursday Night Football. The defense only gathered one sack for the day, and this helped Joe Burrow get into a groove for Cincinnati. With the loss of Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins’ defense needs to be elite in order to stay in the top part of the AFC.
