DEF/ST Fantasy Football: DAWGS Or FRAUDS Week 5

Week 5 has just finished, and we will look back at the best and worst DEF/ST Fantasy Football performances of the week. Take note that we are using Sleeper’s PPR scoring system for this analysis.

Golden DAWG: Dallas Cowboys 25 FP

2 Forced Fumbles, 2 Fumble Recoveries, 1 Defense TD, 5 Sacks, 1 Interception, 1 Blocked Kick, 7-13 Points Allowed (Projected: 6.90 FP)

The Dallas Cowboys made life miserable for Matthew Stafford

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense made Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams look terrible in their matchup in Week 5. Other than a 75-yard Cooper Kupp TD, the Cowboys imposed their will. DeMarcus Lawrence recovered a fumble for a TD, and Micah Parsons had two sacks. This game exposed the Rams’ offense even more.

Silver DAWG: New England Patriots 23 FP

1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, 1 Defense TD, 1 Interception, 2 Sacks, 0 Points Allowed (Projected: 7.60 FP)

Jared Goff had a terrible outing against the elite Patriots’ defense

The Patriots’ defense shut out the Lions’ offense which has been doing better than expected in Week 5. Kyle Dugger recovered a fumble and returned it for a 59-yard TD. Matt Judon has two sacks for the day. The defense as a whole focused on the underneath routes that Jared Goff likes. The Patriots’ defense can always be relied on as an elite DEF/ST team in fantasy football.

Bronze DAWG: Indianapolis Colts 16 FP

1 Forced Fumble, 1 Special Teams Forced Fumble, 2 Interceptions, 4 Sacks, 1 Blocked Kick, 7-13 Points Allowed (Projected: 6.98 FP)

The Denver offense was dead against the Colts’ defense

The Indianapolis Colts’ defense led the way in their 12-9 win over the Broncos in Week 5. Russell Wilson was slowed down by the Colts, who were led by two sacks from DeForest Buckner and elite coverage by Stephon Gilmore. The Colts will have a revenge game against the Jaguars next week.

Golden FRAUD: Miami Dolphins -2 FP

35+ Points Allowed, 2 Sacks (Projected: 8.88 FP)

The Jets ran all over the Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins’ defense had no answer for the Jets’ running game in Week 5. The Jets ran for 135 yards and had five rushing TDs. Four different rushers scored a TD for the Jets. The Dolphins’ defense will need to step up, especially if Skylar Thompson remains the starter after all the injuries at QB.

Silver FRAUD: Green Bay Packers 3 FP

21-27 Points Allowed, 1 Safety, 1 Sack (Projected: 9.57 FP)

The Packers’ defense did not travel to London

The Packers’ defense disappointed a lot of people in their loss to the Giants in London. In the second half, the Packers couldn’t get a stop to save them, and the Giants ran them over. Green Bay will have a matchup against the Jets in Week 6. Let’s see if the Packets will bounce back.

Bronze FRAUD: Kansas City Chiefs 2 FP

28-34 Points Allowed, 2 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble (Projected: 8.15 FP)

Chris Jones was hit with a controversial roughing-the-passer call

The Kansas City defense struggled against the impressive offense displayed by the Raiders. Josh Jacobs ran them over for 154 yards and a TD, while Davante Adams had 124 yards and two TDs from the air. The Chiefs did stop a potential game-changing 2 point-conversion which helped them gain the win. They face the Bills next week, and I expect them not to be relied upon as a DEF/ST football option.
