DFS Studs and Scrubs: Week 7

Hello everyone! After a week off, I welcome you to the Week 7 edition of DFS Studs and Scrubs. I had a very busy week last week and never found time to sit down and put pen to paper (or in this case, hands to keyboard). This was truly unfortunate timing, because using some plays that would have made this article, I took first place in a 15,000+ entry tournament on FanDuel and took home a nice little $5,000 prize! The winning lineup is pictured below. But enough about last week, let’s get into the plays for Week 7! As usual, I will list the FanDuel price first, followed by DraftKings.

Studs

For my DFS studs and scrubs articles, the studs are the higher priced players that you build your lineup around. The cutoff price is usually around $7,000 for QBs, $6,000 for RBs and WRs, and $5,000 for TEs. Remember, as a rule of thumb, players need to score three times their salary to “hit value”. That is, if a player costs $9,000, ideally they will score at least 27 points. Keep this in mind when deciding which high priced players to throw in your lineup.

Quarterbacks
  1. Russell Wilson ($8,700/$8,000): Mr. Unlimited finds himself in a likely shootout with the division-rival Cardinals. Wilson has been the best quarterback in fantasy (and probably real life too) so I see no reason to not play him.
  2. Kyler Murray ($8,400/$7,100): On the other side of the ball from Wilson you will find Kyler Murray. He gets a juicy match-up with a pretty awful Seahawks defense. Word of warning, he will probably be among the most popular quarterbacks.
  3. Matt Ryan ($7,800/$6,700): Ryan had a nice bounce-back last week against the Vikings after a few lackluster games. Fortunately, he gets an equally as friendly match-up with the Lions this week.
Running Backs
  1. Alvin Kamara ($9,300/$7,900): The Panthers are hopeless against the run. Kamara has been a stud all season. Need I say more? With Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders out this week, Kamara will continue to be heavily targeted in the pass game.
  2. Aaron Jones ($8,500/$7,200): Jones has remained a focal point of the Packers offense in 2020. He gets a nice match-up with the Texans in a game with a 56.5 point over/under. Jones always has multi-touchdown upside. UPDATE: Since the writing of this article, Jones has been all but ruled out. I would prefer Jamaal Williams if Jones sits, A.J. Dillon is playable as well though. If Jones does play I think I will be fading him.
  3. Justin Jackson ($6,100/$4,900): I set the cutoff for studs and scrubs at $6,000, so depending on which site you’re playing on Jackson could fall into either category. He assumed lead-back duties over Joshua Kelley the last time the Chargers took the field and now squares off against the Jaguars. His DraftKings price seems a tad low.
Wide Receivers

  1. DeAndre Hopkins ($9,000/$8,200): The Seahawks have been hemorrhaging points to the wide receiver position. Hopkins is a target magnet. Kind of a no brainer here. Stack Hopkins with the aforementioned Kyler Murray and you have perhaps the most popular duo of the day.
  2. Kenny Golladay ($7,600/$6,700): Kenny G has been fairly consistent since coming back from an early-season hamstring injury. Now he gets a crack at an Atlanta secondary that gets roasted regularly.
  3. Terry McLaurin ($7,100/$5,800): Halloween is approaching, it’s Scary Terry’s time to shine. The only person that will be able to slow him down this week might be his own quarterback. He is a lock for me on DraftKings at this price.
Tight Ends

  1. Robert Tonyan ($6,000/$4,600): I see no reason to pay up at TE this week outside of game stacks, there are a ton of affordable options. Tonyan has developed into a nice secondary weapon for Aaron Rodgers who will be out for blood this week.
  2. Hunter Henry ($5,800/$4,500): Henry has been seeing plenty of targets from Justin Herbert. They will face off with a very vulnerable Jaguars defense. If Keenan Allen sits this one out, look for Henry to see a ton of targets over the middle of the field.
Scrubs

This wouldn’t be a DFS studs and scrubs article without a scrubs section, would it? Scrubs are the lower-priced players that sort of fill in the cracks of your lineup. Think of this tier of players as your local thrift store: most of it is useless junk no one wants, but every now and then you find an autographed copy of The Old Man and the Sea. Let’s go find some Hemingway autographs!

Quarterbacks
  1. Joe Burrow ($7,100/$5,500): I’m more apt to play Burrow on DraftKings, where his $5,500 price tag seems a little low for a matchup with a Browns defense that is vulnerable through the air. If the Bengals offensive line can keep him upright he could have a big day.
  2. Kyle Allen ($6,700/$5,200): This one is a DK special. Getting a QB with a great matchup for $5,200 opens up a lot of possibilities for the rest of your lineup. The only negative part about this is that you then have Kyle Allen in your lineup.
Running Backs
  1. Latavius Murray ($5,300/$4,800): Murray gets the same homerun matchup that Kamara gets with a fraction of the ownership and price. Murray should get approximately 15 touches and a very good chance at finding the endzone.
  2. David Johnson ($6,300/$5,300): Another DK special here, as he is above my “scrub” cutoff on FanDuel. At $5,300, with a match-up against the Packers, there is some appeal here.
Wide Receivers and Tight Ends
  1. Tee Higgins ($5,700/$5,300): I love Higgins this week for the same reasons I love Joe Burrow. Higgins is emerging as Burrow’s number one receiver and has big-time upside at this price.
  2. Deebo Samuel ($5,400/$5,000): Deebo is priced like he is still on injured reserve, especially on FanDuel. Yes, he has to go against the Patriots and will likely have to deal with Stephon Gilmore for a while, but the 49ers are so good at manufacturing touches for him it shouldn’t matter too much.
  3. Logan Thomas ($5,000/$3,500): I probably won’t play Thomas on FanDuel but at $3,500 on DraftKings, you could do a lot worse. Anyone up for a little Allen, McLaurin, Thomas stack?

As much as I would like to keep going I should probably cut off the DFS studs and scrubs for the week here. If you want some more plays hit me up on Twitter! I’ve got some more sneaky ones for this week! While you’re here, check out the other great articles we have at Belly Up as we forge on towards the playoffs! Good luck this week!
