In my last article, I touched on the evolution of the fantasy TE. Would it surprise you that before the 2019 season many leagues considered removing TEs from their league? I can’t imagine playing fantasy football without the TE position. You know, I would consider myself a TE “worshipper”. I have predicted the breakouts of Tyler Eifert in his 13 TD season, Mark Andrews in 2019, and that’s just to name a couple. I’ll make sure to do an article as the season gets closer predicting my breakout TE. In this dynasty breakdown, we get closer to the top options going into the 2020 season. Owning a TE that produces weekly makes fantasy a whole lot easier and that’s exactly what I want to do for you.

30. Gerald Everett

Everett will only be 26 heading into his third season in the NFL. Gerald showed some bright spots in his game in 2019 before going down with an injury. Now with Brandin Cooks in Houston, McVay has stated that he would like to see Everett get more involved. It was clear that Everett was the number one TE for the Rams before he got hurt. Over the last few weeks of the 2019 season, his teammate Tyler Higbee stepped up and earned the top role in my eyes.

Everett will still be a key part of the Rams offense due to his run blocking and big frame. Everett will surprise his fantasy owners in 2020 as I think he will play a key role with McVay. Gerald Everett can be stolen in the late rounds of a dynasty startup and he is a guy that I would be willing to hold on to.

29. Will Dissly

I am not a huge fan of Seahawk’s tight ends but Dissly did show a few bright spots in 2019. Will Dissly started on the right foot in 2019 by grabbing four scores in the first four weeks of the season. Dissly went down in Week 6 after suffering a torn Achilles against the Browns. Dissly will be entering his third season in the league in 2020 and does show some promise. A major concern for me is that we have now seen Dissly’s first two seasons cut short by injury.

Another concern for me is the addition of Greg Olsen. It is not that I believe Olsen will take away too many targets from Dissly but that there simply aren’t enough targets to go around in Seattle’s offense. Seattle is a run-first team and whichever TE can help in that sense will be on the field. Dissly goes late in dynasty drafts and if he can stay healthy, he could be a very good fantasy TE for years to come.

28. Chris Herndon

Chris Herndon found an instant connection with his rookie counterpart Sam Darnold in 2018. It was expected that Herndon could take the next step in 2019, but after a drug misuse, Herndon would be sidelined for the first four weeks of the season. Herndon continued to struggle to get back on the field as he dealt with a nagging hamstring injury and finally when he returned he suffered a rib injury that landed him on the IR.

Darnold will continue to be without any star pass catchers barring drafting a top WR in the 2020 NFL Draft. Herndon has shown that he can be a playmaker and Ryan Griffin was an every-week starter at the TE position. The Jets will continue to feature the TE position in their offense and Herndon should be able to slide into that role and produce accordingly. Herndon goes late in dynasty startups and doesn’t require you to take many risks to have him. Herndon is one of my favorite sleepers going into 2020.

27. Dawson Knox

Dawson Knox may not have had the best fantasy production in 2019 but some things impressed me. Knox played a big role in the Bills’ rushing attack and was able to create large holes for Devin Singletary to run through. Knox also started 11 games for the Bills in 2019, which means they are committed to him for the future. With the addition of Stefon Diggs, there may be a chance for Josh Allen to extend the passing game more often.

I think Knox is a great young TE that can take his game to the next step going forward. He is capped by his team’s offensive game plan however. I can see Knox possibly grabbing 5 or 6 TDs in 2020 and adding about 500 yards in the air. Knox is another TE that goes later in dynasty drafts and if you have the taxi room it may be worth stashing him there.

26. Harrison Bryant

Harrison Bryant had a great season in 2019 under offensive head coach Lane Kiffin at Florida Atlantic. Bryant eclipsed 1,000 yards in his senior year at FAU. Bryant is my favorite TE in this class. He is an all-around football player with high football IQ and a knack for the ball. Harrison is also reliable in the run game despite being a little smaller than most other TEs in the draft class. It is quite impressive for a TE to have over 1,000 receiving yards in college football. It just shows how big of a fantasy asset he can be in the NFL. I believe Bryant will join Joe Burrow In Cincinnati.

This is would be a great addition for Joe Burrow as the Bengals look to build their future offense under the Heisman trophy winner. Yes, we saw Burrow use Thad Moss in the National Title game and I can see Bryant being a day one starter for the Bengals. If Bryant falls to the Bengals in the later rounds, I would consider him the top TE in this rookie draft class. This would make him a dynasty target for me.

25. Adam Trautman

Trautman has had the production to make him a top rookie TE. However, scouts are concerned because he did play at FCS Dayton. There is uncertainty if he could bring his game to the next level. Trautman is very talented and can play slot receiver but spent most of his time lined up at TE. When Trautman was targeted, he was able to bring it in and do something with the ball in his hands. Trautman does a good job of getting to his top speed despite being a bigger TE. I believe this draft will favor the TE that has had the numbers to support their play at the college level.

Trautman has the numbers and performed well at the combine. The Jaguars have had an apparent need at TE for long as I could remember. Adam would be able to contend for the starting spot and help himself became a big target for Gardner Minshew. Trautman will be able to transition into the league at his pace if he goes to a team in a rebuilding phase like the Jaguars. Trautman will be a fifth-round pick or go undrafted in dynasty rookie drafts. If you are lacking at TE, I would take a shot with keeping him on my taxi squad if he doesn’t see immediate impact.

24. Jared Cook

Jared Cook was expected to be able to fill the hole at TE for the Saints in 2019. Cook stepped in and played well at times. However, he wasn’t able to truly fill that hole that was left by Jimmy Graham‘s prime years. Cook did have his career-best in receiving TD when he grabbed nine of them in 2019. Jared Cook will continue to be able to move around in the middle of the field for Brees’ dump-offs.

Michael Thomas will most likely see a decrease in TD in 2020. With the addition of Emmanuel Sanders, Brees will spread the ball around more. Cook will still play in one of the best passing attacks in the NFL. He will also play in a division that will consist of many shootouts in 2020. Jared Cook is not the best long term option for dynasty leagues. That said, he may be able to help you win games week to week. Cook is a priority of mine in dynasty leagues but I wouldn’t fault anyone for wanting to own him.

23. Brycen Hopkins

Hopkins is a great flex TE– much like Kelce– that runs a great route tree. The route tree is great but he has below average hands and won’t make any great catches like other TEs in this class can. He doesn’t have any consistency when changing the ball and I can’t see this changing when he gets to the pros. At Purdue, he was schemed open for most of his catches and this helped his stat line tremendously. He does play with strength and won’t let a safety or LB make him fear going up and to get the ball.

Most times though he won’t bring in the ball unless he is wide open. His stiff hands need some work and his pad level when playing inline needs to come down. I think Hopkins will be a late Day 2 selection but I would not at all be surprised to see him fall onto Day 3. I can see Hopkins joining the Dallas Cowboys to compete for a starting spot with Blake Jarwin. New HC Mike McCarthy isn’t known to use his TE much in his offense, but I think Dak Prescott will use his TE more than attended. If Hopkins can fall to Dallas late, he holds some sneak dynasty value. The right team for Hopkins is very important for him having dynasty success.

22. Eric Ebron

Eric Ebron appeared to find a new opportunity for himself when he joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. The former 10th overall pick never seemed to be able to get his career started with the Detroit Lions. Ebron exploded for 750 yards and 13 scores in 2018. Ebron earned some people’s respect and rose draft boards going into the 2019 season. Eric Ebron went down with a bad ankle injury around Week 10 and that could hold him out going into the 2020 season. Big Ben hasn’t had a viable TD since Heath Miller. Eric should be able to give Big Ben a bigger option to target in the red zone when he returns to form in 2020. Ebron has the potential to score double-digit TD for the Steelers and goes late in dynasty startups. If Ebron scores 8+ TD in 2020, he will be worth the investment.

21. Jack Doyle

Jack Doyle has been a consistent part of the Colts offense over the last five 5 seasons. Under Luck, Doyle was one of the better fantasy TEs at that time. In 2019 with Brissett, Doyle still saw 72 targets. With Ebron now in Pittsburgh, Doyle will only have competition from Mo Alie-Cox. Doyle will be the TE1 going into the 2020 season now with new, at least new to the Colts, QB Philip Rivers.

Rivers has consistently used a TE over his career between the likes of Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry. I think Doyle is primed for a big 2020 season if he stays healthy. The Colts will still lack talent in the WR corps and Rivers will look to Doyle to be his man, especially in the red zone. Doyle goes later in dynasty startups and I can think he has a good chance to finish in the Top 10 fantasy TE of 2020.
