Fantasy Football Draft Strategies

Draft Strategy Number Three: The Early to Mid Rounds

Lamar Jackson 2020 MVP hopes: How ex-MVPs have fared after winning ...

After the first round is complete it is time for your fantasy football draft strategies to kick in. This is especially true when it comes to the quarterback position. It happens every year. Someone falls to the siren song of a quarterback like Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes and pulls the trigger way too early. Recall that Jackson himself was a late-round draft pick a year ago. He paved the way for quite a few fantasy championships. Get the best position players at the beginning. Lots of quality quarterbacks will be waiting in the fifth round or even later.

Draft the player you like the best early in the draft and don’t worry so much about position until later. That is how someone winds up reaching for a player instead of taking the best talent. Also, be aware of players’ bye weeks, but don’t obsess over it. If the first four players drafted all have a week eight bye, that will certainly cause problems down the round.

Draft Strategy Number Four: The Late Rounds

Stats: The numbers behind the Bills No. 1 ranked defense

Taking a player with the safest floor certainly doesn’t apply late in drafts. This is where the player with the highest ceiling and potential should be looked for. Let’s face it- late-round players are pretty much dime-a-dozen. The waiver wire can easily replace mistakes made at this stage. Look for the sleepers like a rookie with the clearest shot at a starting job. If they pan out, a playoff berth will almost certainly be in the cards.

This is also where a team defense and kicker should be added. Don’t be the guy that takes the Buffalo D in the 10th round or looks to catch Patriots lightning two seasons in a row. It could cause you to miss out on an excellent player value and a playoff spot. It is all part of having solid fantasy football draft strategies. It is the foundation of having an enjoyable fantasy campaign. Just remember me at Christmas time.
