Mock Draft Mania: Kevin’s Superflex Picks

Draft Selections: Wide Receivers

Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers, Pick: 1/12

Will Davante Adams Lead The NFL In Targets?

The last pick of the first round, Davante Adams was the beginning of the fantasy football superflex mock draft for me. The fact that he was still there 12 picks into the draft was a surprise and a delight. I have him ranked as the second-best wide receiver behind Michael Thomas, at least for this season. The biggest reason for that is Aaron Rodgers looks to be extra motivated to put up big numbers this year.

A perceived slight because of the Packers selection of quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of April’s draft is the factor here. True, Adams lost some time to injury in 2019 but still caught 83 passes with five TDs. But just look at his 2018 and see what he is capable of- 111 catches for 1,386 yards and 13 scores. In the three previous seasons before 2019, he hauled in 35 touchdowns.

It was suggested during the draft that Adam’s fortunes will change because Rodgers will probably be gone after this year. But if Love is the starter, he will need a dependable receiver to thrive and who better than Adams? It looks like Smiley Town for this team for several seasons to come.

Others:

Jarvis Landry, Cleveland Browns, Pick: 7/12

The second wide receiver selected and second Browns player, Jarvis Landry looks for big things in Cleveland. He played in all 16 games last season and caught 83 passes for 1,174 yards and six TDs. He has never caught less than 81 passes in his six-year NFL career. And let’s face it, almost nothing went right for the Browns in 2019.

That shouldn’t be the case going forward as their offense looks well-positioned for a rapid rise. Quarterback Baker Mayfield will not have a repeat of last season and Landry will greatly benefit. Six years is a bit long for dynasty, but I will gladly take what comes in the meantime.

Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals, Pick: 9/12

On the other hand, Christian Kirk is perfect for dynasty. He is entering his third season and has improved his numbers every year. Best of all, he has a quarterback in Kyler Murray that will be one of the best at his position for some years to come. Fellow receiver DeAndre Hopkins will demand extra defenders, which will give Kirk a lot of free ground to roam. No question, he will zoom past last season’s totals of 68-709-3. If there is anyone questioning whether or not to pull the trigger on Kirk, don’t question it. Just do it!

John Brown, Baltimore Ravens, Pick: 13/12

The last receiver selected in my draft was John Brown. Another player with lots of miles on him as he enters his seventh season. He was pretty good in 2019- 72 catches for 1,060 yards and 6 TDs, Obviously, he will not be the number one receiver in Buffalo now that the Bills have Stefon Diggs. However, he has three seasons of five or more TDs in his career. In the 13th round, talent is thin and since this is dynasty, if a pick doesn’t work, hit reset and move on.

Draft Selections: Tight Ends

Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders, Pick: 8/1

Grading the 2019 Oakland Raiders: TE Darren Waller

To have a tight end as talented as Darren Waller fall to me in the eighth round was unexpected but very satisfying. He is coming off of a season in which he played all 16 games, caught 90 passes for 1,145 yards and 3 TDs. His YPC was an excellent 12.7. If there is one thing that can be known about Oakland is that they will throw the football. The Raiders offense as a whole looks like it could be very good. While Waller has been in the league for four seasons, last year was the first in which he played every game. He should be an excellent tight end for years to come, which works extremely well in dynasty.

Others:

Hayden Hurst, Atlanta Falcons, Pick: 12/1

The fact that Hayden Hurst was there in the 12th round brought a smile to my face. Because of this, the universe suddenly seemed to be a much better place than it had just moments before. Hurst’s first two seasons in Baltimore are nothing to write home about, but after a trade, he’s now in Atlanta. And just like with the Raiders, we know that the Falcons will throw the ball. A LOT.

He replaces Austin Hooper, who signed with Cleveland. Look at Hooper’s numbers last season- 75-787-6. It isn’t a leap to think that Hurst can duplicate that. Add that this will be Hurst’s first year as a starter and this is a no-brainer pick in dynasty. Raise your hand if you agree. Yes, I see you.
