Mock Draft Mania: Nate’s Dynasty

Hey everyone, Belly Up Fantasy Sports is hosting weekly mock drafts! Our goal is to get you as prepared as possible for your draft! This week, we did a dynasty startup mock draft! In today’s article, I will be going over my starting lineup, and why I picked each player when I did. If you want to get involved in a Saturday mock draft, let anyone at Belly Up Fantasy Sports know! Without further ado, I present, Mock Draft Mania: Nate’s Dynasty.

Latest mock draft livestream:

QB:

Josh Allen, 3.10

As this was a SuperFlex league, QBs were going earlier than a one QB redraft league. At the end of round three, all the elite QBs were gone, but Josh Allen was still sitting there. Allen isn’t the most accurate QB, but he makes up for that with his rushing ability. The Bills young QB has rushed for 1,141 yards, and 17 TDs during his two year NFL career. Allen took a step forward in 2019-20 when it came to the passing game, which he will hopefully further improve upon in the coming years. The Bills are putting together a very dangerous offense, which boosts Allen’s fantasy value. At the 3.10, I was more than happy to add Josh Allen to the squad because if he can become a decent passer, he will be a very dangerous dual-threat QB.

Drew Lock, 6.03

At the 6.03, I pulled the trigger on Drew Lock. The 22-year-old QB has all the weapons he could want. Solid RB tandem, great young receivers, and a fast young TE. I liked what I saw in Lock’s limited starts last season, and being only 22 years old, Lock has still much more room to grow. Being in the AFC West, the Broncos are going to have to keep up with teams like the Chiefs and Raiders. This should give Lock lots of opportunities to sling the rock. Being able to pick up Lock in the sixth as my SuperFlex was a good value pick, and the right pick for the future of my team.

RB:

Josh Jacobs, 1.10

With my first pick in this dynasty mock draft, I selected Josh Jacobs. After seeing what Jacobs did in his rookie year, I was delighted when he was still on the board. Last season, Jacobs rushed 242 times for 1,150 yards and 7 TDs. Jacobs only played in 13 games, so if he were to say healthy, we may be looking at 1,400 plus rushing yards and 10 plus TDs. With the Raiders building an explosive offense, the opposing defense can’t solely focus on stopping Jacobs, which should give Jacobs less crowded boxes to run through. Adding Josh Jacobs to the squad laid a solid foundation for the future of my team.

Joe Mixon, 2.03

After scooping up Josh Jacobs in round one, I decided to add another RB to the squad, Joe Mixon. As this was a full point PPR mock draft, Mixon’s value goes up. In the 2019-20 season, Mixon rushed 278 times for 1,137 yards and 5 TDs. Mixon also got involved in the passing game, as he caught 35 passes for 287 yards and 3 TDs. With Joe Burrow in town, Mixon should see an increase in targets, while seeing a similar workload on the ground. If Jacobs and Mixon can continue their success from last season, I’m going to have two explosive, young RBs for years to come.

WR:

Mike Evans, 4.03

When I was back on the clock in round four, I was very surprised to see Mike Evans still on the board. Although Jameis Winston isn’t there to chuck deep balls up to Evans, I believe Evans has another strong season. In his six-year NFL career, Evans has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards each season. Evans is a huge red zone threat and can win almost any one on one battle versus a smaller CB. Even with an older Tom Brady as QB, and lots of competition on the outside, Evans is too talented and should still have at least another four fantastic seasons ahead of him.

D.J. Chark, 5.10

At the end of round five, I took a player with lots of upside, DJ Chark. After a quiet rookie season, Chark broke out in 2019-20. Chark recorded 73 receptions for 1,008 receiving yards and 8 TDs. The chemistry Minshew and Chark showed last season was impressive, considering it was their first year working together. As a 23-year-old, I love Chark in dynasty, as I think we haven’t seen the best of DJ Chark yet.

Tyler Boyd, 7.10

Coming in as my WR3, I selected Tyler Boyd. The Bengals young WR has quietly put together back to back 1,000-yard seasons. Even though Boyd has to compete with AJ Green and Tee Higgins, I still see Boyd having another 1,000-yard season. Boyd can beat defenders and find the soft spots in zones, which make him a great PPR option. Although Tyler Boyd isn’t the flashiest name out there, he still consistently produces, which is what you’re looking for in a WR3.

TE:

Evan Engram, 8.03

Mock Draft

At the 8.03, I decided to take the TE from my New York Giants, Evan Engram. This pick was a bit of a risk due to Engram’s injury history, but if healthy, Engram is an explosive TE with lots of upside. Evan Engram ran a 4.42 40 yard dash, making him a huge mismatch versus the vast majority of LBs in the league. Engram only played in eight games last season, which is worrisome, but I was willing to take a risk on an explosive player. Additionally, the Giants have a dangerous young offense, which should give Engram more great matchups. Sometimes in fantasy football, you have to take risks, which is what I did by selecting Evan Engram.

FLEX:

Derrius Guice, 9.10

Mock Draft

At the 9.10, I drafted another injury-prone player in Derrius Guice. Like Evan Engram, Guice has had multiple injuries in his young NFL career. However, the upside and talent that Guice has made me take the risk. Guice only played in five games last season, but during those five games, Guice averaged 5.8 yards per carry. Hopefully, the young RB can stay on the field because he is an explosive back, who has the potential to be one of the best value picks this season.

Denzel Mims, 10.03

At the 10.03, I decided to take rookie WR, Denzel Mims. Mims is set to be the WR3 on the Jets, which should give him a good amount of playing time this season. However, this pick was more for the future than for now. Mims had a great senior year at Baylor, as he recorded 1,020 receiving yards and 12 TDs. Mims is a big receiver, who can win the jump balls, and is a solid red-zone threat. Hopefully, Denzel Mims pans out well and becomes a solid fantasy WR for years to come.

Austin Hooper, 12.03

To fill the last FLEX position, I drafted Austin Hooper at the 12.03. After being signed by the Browns in the offseason, Hooper looks to continue the success he had last season with the Falcons. Although the Browns have a plethora of weapons on the outside, Hooper still should see his fair share of targets. The Browns signed Hooper to a 4-year contract that’s worth up to 44 million dollars. The Browns didn’t pay Hooper that much money to not get involved, which is why I’m not too worried about Hooper not getting enough targets this season.
