NFC Divisional Round Sunday Late Game Preview

It’s the Divisional Round! There’s one team left to determine for the Conference Championships. Belly Up Fantasy is still going strong, with rankings for each round, as well as preview articles for each game. The NFC Divisional Round Sunday late game will see the red-hot 49ers host the Cowboys. The game airs on FOX at 6:30 pm EST this Sunday, January 22.

NFC Divisional Round Sunday Game Preview: Cowboys’ Offense

The Cowboys will need to flex their passing game muscles against a stout San Francisco defense.

While it wasn’t necessarily a surprise that the Cowboys emerged from their Wild Card contest with Tampa Bay, it was mildly shocking how easy they made it look. The game was never really in doubt from the opening kick. Dak Prescott put together perhaps the best overall performance of his career as the Cowboys snapped a playoff drought in road games stretching back to the ’90’s.

DFS Outlook

Prescott may be coming off a monster performance, but he’s also facing a monster of a defense this week. I don’t look for a repeat of last week’s fantasy windfall against San Francisco, and I have him ranked at QB8 accordingly. He’s a longshot bet to return value on his price of $6,100 at DraftKings. Tony Pollard ($6,100) and Ezekiel Elliott ($5,400) are both coming off relatively underwhelming fantasy days. I’m not overly excited about their prospects here, either. Elliott is the cheaper play, and possibly the better bet to score, as he’ll get any potential redzone/goal line looks. You’re betting on a short score or two from him if you play him. With Pollard, you’re banking on him putting up a much better receiving line than the three catches on three targets for twelve yards he gave you last week. They’re both risky plays.

Dalton Schultz ($4,200) is expensive and risky, even in light of last week’s nice output. The ‘Niners aren’t easy on opposing fantasy tight ends, and two scores is a lot to ask if you’re looking for last week’s totals out of Schultz. Don’t chase the touchdowns.

Where I do like the Cowboys in DFS is at receiver. Yes, CeeDee Lamb is going to cost you a pretty penny at $7,300, but he’s also my WR4 play this week in a matchup at the only position of relative weakness for the 49ers. They gave up the sixth-most half-ppr points to opponents at wide receiver this year. Lamb was a target monster all season and is coming off a nice 16+ point day last week. I like him in your lineups this week to do some damage. Michael Gallup ($3,800) or T.Y. Hilton ($3,200) make affordable receiver options with pop potential at the bottom of your budget.

NFC Divisional Round Sunday Game Preview: 49ers’ Offense

Deebo Samuel had a big game last round. Can he repeat against the ‘Boys?

They may be the NFC’s number two seed, but the 49ers may be the best team in the NFL. They’re certainly the hottest, having won eleven straight games. With a wealth of weapons at every skill position unlike any other team in the league, Kyle Shanahan’s team has the ability to play any pace or style of offense they need. Brock Purdy may nominally be a rookie, but he’s been as calm and cool as any signal caller since taking over in the wake of Jimmy Garoppolo‘s injury. Combined with their absolute wall of a defense, San Francisco’s offense makes the ‘Niners the team to beat in the NFC, regardless of seeding.

DFS Outlook

Purdy is coming off his best game of the year in terms of his fantasy stat line. He’s been good for at least two touchdown passes in every game as a starter, with three scores in each of the last two games. Last week, he ran for a score as well. Dallas is not Seattle on defense. I don’t expect that sort of explosion from him this week, but he makes for a safe play in DFS if nothing else. He’s this week’s most affordable quarterback at $5,400, and with the options he has around him, he could return great value there. I liked George Kittle ($5,700) last week to pop against the worst defense in fantasy against tight ends. He did not rise to the occasion. He’s a relatively expensive option for the position, but going cheap with Purdy could leave you room. Kittle’s my TE2 this week.

Christian McCaffrey is still the top weapon in fantasy football. He’s the highest-priced play at any position at $8,000 on DraftKings, but more often than not is worth every penny. You don’t need me to tell you that. But, what you might not know is that Deebo Samuel‘s similar skillset will cost you only $5,900. They both went off last week, with Samuel leading the team in targets, receptions and yards. If he gets anywhere close to that this week, he’s money in the bank at that price. Brandon Aiyuk at $5,000 is not a bad option, either. The Cowboys allowed the fifth-most points to opposing fantasy wideouts. Elijah Mitchell ($4,700) is a good player in a bad matchup coming off an inefficient rushing performance. He did catch a score last week, but that’s not his game. I’m skipping him this week. The 49ers’ DST is pricey, but playable.
