Starts and Sits: Week 2

It’s Week 2 and I’m ready to bring you guys my starts and sits for the week. I hope this helps fantasy players in their decision-making for Week 2, All of us have been ready for Sunday since waivers cleared. Now it’s finally here, so look over this list and consider it when you are making your roster choices. Some of them may be Bold, but sometimes we have to be bold to be champions.

Quarterback

Starts

Mac Jones vs New York Jets

Mac Jones is coming off a good first week against a very opportunistic Dolphins defense. This week he’ll get one of the bottom dwellers on defense in the New York Jets. Jones threw for 281 yards and a TD in his debut while getting all his receivers involved, four of his receivers had five or more targets. Maybe more importantly Jones got James White heavily involved in the offense. Mac looked good under pressure and stepped into all of his throws. On the flip side, the Jets didn’t look great against Sam Darnold and their secondary looked particularly exploitable. My prediction is Jones will log 300 passing yards, 2 TD, a solid day for QB2 leagues.

Jalen Hurts vs San Francisco 49ers

Jalen Hurts looked great in Week 1 vs the Atlanta Falcons. He had such an easy time getting out of the pocket and making throws to the right guys. Hurts fed his teammates with four of his receivers getting five or more targets. The 49ers’ defense is stout, but with the loss of Jason Verrett to a season-ending ACL injury. This might be another big game for Hurts, with an exploitable secondary and defensive line that doesn’t do particularly well against running QBs. My prediction is 250 passing yards, 2 TD, 60 rushing yards, and TD.

Sits

Quarterback

Carson Wentz vs LA Rams

Carson Wentz is going to have a tough matchup this week with the LA Rams. Not only does he have to deal with a plethora of injuries on his offensive line, but now he has to go against two of the top defenders in the NFL. With Jalen Ramsey covering Michael Pittman and Quenton Nelson not being 100 percent against Aaron Donald. This has a bad game written all over it, while I don’t think Wentz will be Eagles bad he just doesn’t have the talent to overcome his team’s shortcomings. My prediction is 200 yards passing 2 TD and 2 INTs.

Matt Ryan vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Matt Ryan was sacked six times last week against the Eagles and it won’t be getting better this week against the Bucs. Ryan does not look comfortable behind that offensive line and will need to get the ball out quicker this week. Look for the Bucs to make Ryan throw the ball before he wants to, and this could lead to poor passes and interceptions. Topping it all off is the Bucs run defense should hold Mike Davis in check, essentially forcing Ryan to have to throw most of the game. My prediction, Ryan passes for 150-200 yards, TD, 1-2 INT, and a sack-fumble.

Running Back

Starts

Damien Harris vs New York Jets

Damien Harris had an awesome first game against the Dolphins going for 100 yards and picking up two catches on three targets. The lone blemish in this game was Harris’ fumble at the end that put the game away for the Miami Dolphins. The Jets should be a good matchup for Harris, that defense couldn’t handle Christian McCaffrey. Most teams can’t, but the Jets seemed far less equipped to handle the run game. So coming off a great game against a good defense, I believe Harris is ready to have a big week. My prediction is 120 yards and a TD.

Elijah Mitchell vs Philadelphia Eagles

Elijah Mitchell jumped on the scene last week with a 100 yard, one TD game against the Lions. Mitchell is someone to start this week at running back due to a weak Eagles run defense. Last week the only thing the Falcons did well against the Eagles was run the football. Running the ball just happens to be what the 49ers do best, and with a healthy line, the Niners should be able to dominate the line of scrimmage. My prediction is the explosive runner get another 100-yard game with 2 TDs this week.

Sits

Kenyan Drake vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Kenyan Drake will get the start this week against the Steelers with Josh Jacobs being out with a toe injury. Drake has a tough matchup this week with the Steelers defense being incredibly opportunistic, and strong against the run. I can see Drake making the most of his opportunities and getting a TD to save his day, but he won’t put up as much in the yards department. My prediction is 40 yards and a TD for Drake while catching four balls for 25 yards.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire vs Baltimore Ravens

Clyde Edwards-Helaire didn’t have the showing that fantasy players would’ve expected from a talented former first-round pick. He did though have a very tough assignment against a formidable Browns defensive front. Week 2 will be a lot of the same, as CEH will now play against a Ravens defense that kept Josh Jacobs in check. This could be another dud performance for CEH, my prediction is 50 yards rushing and four receptions for 30 yards.

Wide Reciever

Starts

Antonio Brown vs Atlanta Falcons

Antonio Brown tallied 121 yards against the Cowboys and looked like he hasn’t lost a step. Brown got targeted seven times and once downfield for a 47 yard TD. On this route he made the corner look silly, hitting a stutter step mid-route and then taking off for a TD. Brown has another ideal matchup this week with the Falcons incredibly weak secondary. My prediction is 6 recs,90-100 yards, and a TD.

Tim Patrick vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Tim Patrick is one of the big waiver wire adds this week with the injury to Jerry Jeudy. Patrick looks like an easy start this week against a weak Jacksonville secondary. If he indeed inherits the Jeudy role then he’ll be in for a target-heavy day. My prediction for Patrick is he’ll have 7 receptions, 90 yards, and a TD.

Sits

DeVante Parker vs Buffalo Bills

DeVante Parker will have a tough matchup this week against Tre’Davious White. I expect Parker to be contained for most of the game not getting a chance to breakout. This game will probably favor Jaylen Waddle who will be spending more time in the slot. My prediction is Parker will have two receptions for 10-20 yards.

Michael Pittman vs LA Rams

Michael Pittman will, unfortunately, be guarded by Jalen Ramsey all game long, and that will hinder his production. Ramsey will be lining up wherever Pittman is and will be giving him trouble all game long. I can see Pittman reeling in a couple of passes, but he won’t be a TD threat this week. My prediction is three receptions for 25 yards.

Tight Ends

Starts

Robert Tonyan vs Detroit Lions

Robert Tonyan much like the rest of the Green Bay Packers had a terrible day against the Saints. This week against the Lions, Tonyan should have opportunities to score TDs this week. Aaron Rodgers should be out to prove everyone wrong and there’s no better an opponent than the Lions. Last week the Lions didn’t do the best against George Kittle allowing 78 yards on four catches. Add in the fact that they lost Jeff Okudah, and that secondary looks abysmal. Last year showed us when Rodgers goes supernova he makes everyone around him better. My prediction is five receptions, 50 yards, and 1-2 TD.

Jared Cook vs Dallas Cowboys

Jared Cook looked great with Justin Herbert as his QB. Catching five passes for 56 yards, including a nice catch and run for 23 yards. The Cook-Herbert connection looks like it has the potential to keep Cook relevant week to week. Dallas’ secondary will most likely be focused on slowing down Keenan Allen and trying to cover Mike Wiliams leaving their linebackers to cover Cook. With Cook’s speed and athleticism, it could be a very productive day for the tight end. My prediction is four receptions for 70 yards and a TD.

Sits

Mark Andrews vs Kansas City Chiefs

Mark Andrews had a weak showing against a not-so-good Raiders defense. Andrews got five targets but could only reel in three passes for 20 yards. That’s not the showing you want from a top five TE, this week may be more of the same as the Chiefs will most likely have Tyrann Mathieu covering him. My prediction for Andrews is four receptions for 40 yards.

Mike Gesicki vs Buffalo Bills

Mike Gesicki had three targets and zero catches day for the Dolphins against the Patriots. Gesicki will have another challenge against this athletic Bills defense. I don’t expect another zero catch day for Gesicki but I will say he probably won’t catch a TD. My prediction for Mike Gesicki is three receptions and 35 yards.

Conclusion

Week 2 is upon us, and I’m stoked to be able to bring you my starts and sits of the week. I hope it helps you guys win your Week 2 matchups. I want to depart this article with a word of advice, even your studs will have bad weeks. The whole point of start/sit articles is to give a perspective on matchups, sometimes it’s hard to sit players but the fantasy players that can make bold moves usually win championships. So my advice is don’t be afraid to make a bold decision.
