Week 1 in the NFL has come and gone. In this series, we will be discussing the hot players, honorable mentions, and biggest surprises of the week. This is all based on full PPR, single quarterback leagues and any ownership percentage is based on Yahoo ownership.

Quarterbacks

Russell Wilson leads the Seahawks to the W

HOT-HOT – Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson had 39.78 fantasy points. He went 31-of-35 passing for 322 yards and a whole 4 tuddys in Week 1 (this is my TD talk I can do what I want). He does have a couple of tough matchups upcoming with New England next on the slate and the Dallas Cowboys to follow. It might not be pretty next week, but if your have Russ, you start Russ.

Honorable Mention – Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers had 38.76 fantasy points. He went 32-of-44 on passes for 364 yards and also with 4 touchdowns. Next on the slate, he has Detroit and also has a nice light schedule to follow for the first few weeks of the season. if you can make a trade for Rodgers I would do it.

Biggest Surprise – Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky had 30.28 fantasy points this week. He went a sultry 20-of-36 for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Lions blew this game big time and Trubisky remains the starter at least for another week or two. The Chicago Bears do have a nice, soft schedule with Giants, Falcons, and Colts in the coming weeks. Trubisky should at least have one repeat performance out of those opponents.

Running Backs

Week 3 Picks

HOT-HOT – Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs had 93 yards on 25 rush attempts and 3 touchdowns against a weak Carolina defense for a whopping 35.90 fantasy points. One of the biggest surprises was his 4 receptions for an additional 46 yards. New Orleans in Week 2 is going to be a tough test for Jacobs and the Raiders. The Saints had an awesome performance against Tampa in Week 1. One thing I take away: start whatever running back is starting against Carolina on a weekly basis with confidence.

Honorable Mention – Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey also had 96 yards on the ground on 23 attempts and 2 touchdowns. CMC continues to do CMC things and also had 3 receptions for 38 yards for a total of 28.40 fantasy points this week. Tampa Bay is on the docket next, and Alvin Kamara had a pretty decent game against them. I’m not sure how much damage they do on the ground game script-wise, but CMC should see a nice amount of receiving volume this coming week in a game where I see them playing from behind.

Biggest Surpirse – Nyheim Hines

Nyheim Hines had 7 rush attempts for 28 yards and 1 touchdown. Where Hines did his real damage is through the air with 8 catches for 45 yards and an additional touchdown for a total of 27.30 fantasy points. He could end being a nice little James White/Tarik Cohen mold player this year and should be rostered in your league. This is Jonathan Taylor’s backfield now and he should eat in the coming weeks.

Wide Recievers

HOT-HOT – Davante Adams

Huge game from superstar wide receiver Davante Adams in Week 1. He snagged 14 catches for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. Davante had the highest score of Week 1 with 41.60 fantasy points. He had 17 targets for a 41.46 target share. Look for his Hot-Hot streak to continue next week against the Lions.

Honorable Mention – Calvin Ridley

There were a lot of people calling for the Calvin Ridley breakout this year, myself included. Ridley caught 9 balls for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns this week, good for 33.90 fantasy points. He had 12 targets and was tied with Julio Jones on this team for target share with a solid 23.08. Dallas, Chicago, and Green Bay are the upcoming opponents for the Falcons. I could easily see Ridley back on this list come Week 4 against the Packers.

Biggest Surprise – Robby Anderson

A guy only owned in 32 percent of fantasy leagues, Robby Anderson lead the Panthers this week with 6 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown, giving him a solid 25.50 fantasy points. He also was second on the team with a 23.53 target share. Look for this trend to continue in Week 2 against the Bucs in what I had called for game script-wise with CMC earlier. He moves up to that WR3 range and is a nice flex play this week.

Tight Ends

HOT-HOT – Dallas Goedert

Dallas Goedert is the TE1 after the first week. He went nuclear with 8 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. He racked up a total of 24.10 fantasy points this week. Zach Ertz and Goedert are the two most reliable pass catchers on this team at this time. I don’t see that changing very much for the next few weeks. The Rams should be a very tough matchup and with a lot of quick throws, and the two stud tight ends should benefit. I could see Goedert and Ertz trading top spots on this team week-over-week for most of this year.

Honorable Mention – Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews, first of all, had that highlight one-handed catch in the back of the endzone to start the day. He finished with 5 catches for 58 yards and 2 touchdowns this week. He also finished with 22.80 fantasy points. Andrews is this year’s biggest called for breakout tight end and he didn’t disappoint fantasy owners in this one. People that drafted him will be happy with his performances over the next few weeks.

Biggest Surprise – Logan Thomas

Logan Thomas caught 4 passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. That scored a solid 13.70 fantasy points in Week 1. With the lack of other receiving options in Washington, it only seems fitting that he could finish in the top 10 of tight ends by the time end of the season gets here. There aren’t bad matchups either in the coming weeks. Arizona, who was the worst against tight ends last year, could spell a near repeat performance with or without a touchdown this week. I think he can match his score.

HOT-HOT – ST. Jude Belly Up Bowl Highest Scorer – @MakersMark4

@MakersMark4 was the highest scorer of the week in all of the Belly Up Bowl in Week 1. Shout out to him. Just look at his squad with a total of 174.38
