Ceilings and Floors: New York Giants

This is the 18th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We continue with the NFC East and the New York Giants. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Dallas Cowboys. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Daniel Jones

CEILING: Danny Dimes explodes in his second year, throwing 39 TDs to go along with 4,500 yards passing. He also has 4 rushing TDs and 400 yards.

FLOOR: NFL defenses figure Jones out, and he struggles to progress, throwing for 26 TDs along with 3,500 yards.

PREDICTION: Through 12 games last year, Jones had 24 TDs and 3027 yards. Through 16 that would have looked like 32 TDs and 4,000-plus yards. On last year’s dysfunctional Giants team he did that. If they can be remotely functional in 2020 and Jones improves, you could be looking at the next big thing at QB. Give me 32 TDs and 4,200 yards, plus 3 rushing TDs and 300 yards. I love me some Daniel Jones.

QB2: Colt McCoy

CEILING: 14 TDs and 2,733 yards are both career highs for McCoy who is entering his 10th season. If Jones goes down, McCoy could throw 24 TDs and 3,200 yards in this offense, but he is just a backup QB, nothing more.

FLOOR: He never plays. If he does play, please refer to the floor for all the skill position players.

PREDICTION: He doesn’t play, and NYG becomes a sneaky hot spot for fantasy production.

QB3: Alex Tanney, QB4: Cooper Rush

CEILING: They beat out McCoy for QB2.

FLOOR: With a ceiling like that, you have to imagine the floor is abysmal. It is.

PREDICTION: It is doubtful both these guys make the roster, but even the one who does is worthless in fantasy.

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: Saquon Barkley

CEILING: 24 total TDs, 2,400 total yards, MVP, Fantasy MVP. This guy is a monster who had 15 total touchdowns and 2,028 yards as a rookie, he got hurt and came back twice as fast as they said he would, and now has a QB who can move and make plays. The offense is blossoming, and Saquon is the brightest rose.

FLOOR: Remember how Saquon had a bad year last year? He had 1,400 total yards and 8 TDs in 13 games. That is his floor. He is as safe as they come.

PREDICTION: Saquon ends up as the top RB in fantasy. I foresee 19 total TDs and 2,100 scrimmage yards. He is my pick one, I like his situation better than Christian McCaffrey‘s.

RB2: Dion Lewis

CEILING: Lewis spells Barkley occasionally, and finishes with a moderate 4 TD, 600 yard performance.

FLOOR: Lewis is no longer effective, and loses his place as RB2, scoring no TDs with 160 yards total offense.

PREDICTION: I am off the Dion Lewis train, he has not looked like an NFL player in the last two years. I think 1 TD and 250 yards sounds right.

RB3: Wayne Gallman

CEILING: He beats out Lewis for RB2, and effectively spells Saquon. 5 TDs and 700 yards.

FLOOR: He is somehow beaten out by Lewis, and plays 17 total snaps.

PREDICTION: Gallman is better than Lewis at this point, and I believe he gets more touches. 2 TDs, 450 yards.

RB4: Jon Hilliman, RB5: Javon Leake

CEILING: Saquon’s mom gives them all hearty servings of Campbell’s Chunky.

FLOOR: Mrs. Barkley only brings enough for her baby, and they are forced to eat tasteless, less-filling soup like the rest of the masses.

PREDICTION: These guys make the team due to their special teams potential and affordable contracts. They can afford their own soup.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: Darius Slayton

CEILING: There were plenty of talented rookie WRs last year, who put up good numbers. Nobody is talking about Slayton like they are talking about Brown or Metcalf. They should be. Slayton erupts in 2020, scoring 14 TDs while hauling in 1,300 receiving yards.

FLOOR: 8 TDs and 740 yards were his 2019 numbers, his floor is that considering he only played 14 games and only started 9.

PREDICTION: I could not be higher on Slayton, I think he finishes as a top 10 fantasy WR. Jones should improve, along with the whole offense, and Slayton is primed to score 11 TDs and have 1,100 yards.

WR2: Golden Tate

CEILING: Still a capable player, Tate reaps the benefits of an open offense and scores 8 TDs along with 1,000 yards receiving.

FLOOR: He falls down the depth chart, scoring only 2 TDs along with 300 yards.

PREDICTION: Tate can still play, but his fantasy prowess is now questionable at best. I see 6 TDs and 700 yards receiving, making him a quality depth option.

WR3: Sterling Shepard

CEILING: 8 TDs, 1,000 yards as Shepard emerges as the real WR2 in New York.

FLOOR: 3 TDs, 600 yards. Not as bad as some other floors.

PREDICTION: He is a safe bet to score 4 times and have 750 yards receiving.

WR4: Corey Coleman

CEILING: The former first-round pick finally gets his feet under him, emerging as the clear WR2 behind Slayton. 7 TDs, 800 yards, and some hype moving forward.

FLOOR: Coleman was a bust, is a bust, and always will be a bust. No stats, no snaps.

PREDICTION: Coleman performs better without the pressure of producing, and finds his way to being a serviceable weapon for Jones in the future. 3 TDs, 400 yards, but a promising future.

WR5: Cody Core, WR6: Binjimen Victor, WR7: Alonzo Russel, WR8: Brittan Golden

CEILING: Sorry you guys, but there is actually quite a bit of talent in New York, and there is no room for you on the offensive side of the ball. Special teams, here we come!

FLOOR: Eli Manning shows up to practice to say hello, and they are allowed to catch balls from him.

PREDICTION: Playing time will have to be found elsewhere, and there is no fantasy relevance here.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: Evan Engram

CEILING: 10 TDs, 1,000 yards, and a healthy season. Heck, I think the Giants will just take a healthy season.

FLOOR: He is hurt. Again. Like his previous injuries, he is rendered ineffective. 3 TDs, 400 yards.

PREDICTION: Engram has got to put it all together eventually, right? I will take 7 TDs and 700 yards, because I don’t believe he plays all 16.

TE2: Levine Toilolo

CEILING: The veteran entering his 8th season scores 3 TDs and 265 yards, setting career highs in both.

FLOOR: 2 catches for 10 yards and 0 TDs. That was last year through 13 games and is his astonishingly low floor for a TE2.

PREDICTION: Sees TE3 volume wt max. 1 TD, 100 yards, passed by Smith

TE3: Kaden Smith

CEILING: 6 TDs, 600 yards, wins TE2, and becomes draftable in 2021.

FLOOR: In 9 games in 2019 Smith had 3 TDs and 268 yards, both of which would have been career highs for Toilolo. He is going to win TE2, but he may underperform due to weapons around him. Zero TDs, 250 yards.

PREDICTION: He is the handcuff you want for Engram. I expect decent production, perhaps 4 TDs and 400 yards. If Engram misses a lot of time, he is on my radar.

TE4: Eric Tomlinson, TE5: Garrett Dickerson

CEILING: Snaps at fullback, 5 total touches, 1 TD and 17 yards.

FLOOR: Unplayable.

PREDICTION: Zero percent relevance in fantasy, one percent relevance in NFL, zero percent ownership in all league formats.
