Fantasy Football Storylines Of The Upcoming Offseason

Fantasy Storylines Of The Upcoming Offseason

There is already a lot of chatter making the rounds on potential NFL player moves during the upcoming offseason. So we put together a list of some of Top Fantasy Football Storylines Of The Upcoming Offseason we will be watching closely over the next few weeks and months, from purely fantasy perspectives.

DeAndre Hopkins: No matter where he lands, Hopkins will still produce high quality fantasy numbers. The quarterback on his new team should get a fantasy football boost, though. Two interesting possible scenarios would be for Hopkins to be dealt to the Bears or Giants, where he could raise the outlook of Justin Fields to true elite range, or Daniel Jones into solid top 10 territory.

Aaron Rodgers: The buzz is growing on Rodgers possibly being traded to the Jets, and the Raiders are also another nifty possibility. Rodgers was a disappointment as a real-life and fantasy QB in 2022, but his outlook could improve again in New York or Las Vegas, where he would have better pass-catching options to work with. On the Jets, he would have Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore as promising targets, and Rodgers would certainly welcome a Davante Adams reunion with the Raiders. We could also then see what Jordan Love has to offer in Green Bay, a situation that would pique the interest of fantasy football dynasty players.

Fantasy Storylines Of The Upcoming Offseason

Lamar Jackson: The Ravens have failed to build a quality supporting receiving cast around Jackson for several seasons, and if he ends up elsewhere, he can have greater fantasy appeal. Atlanta has been mentioned as a top potential destination and working with Kyle Pitts and Drake London would push Jackson back into the circle of the highest-ranked superstar fantasy QBs.

Tony Pollard and the Dallas RB situation: Pollard appeared to be on the verge of having a good chance to re-up with Dallas as their preferred lead RB until he suffered a fractured fibula during the playoffs. Now experts such as Mel Kiper Jr. have suggested that the Cowboys could go for a top RB such as Bijan Robinson in the NFL Draft. Any rookie that might potentially start for Dallas could be an immediate impact fantasy player. Pollard’s recovery will be closely monitored as a risk/reward guy for 2023.

Saquon Barkley: It is very likely that Barkley will return to the Giants, but if not, he can end up on a team with a much better offensive playmaking cast around him. If the Bills or Dolphins could make a Barkley deal work, he will have consistent scoring opportunities on higher-powered offenses. But he would also have to share touches with other top playmakers, which might dent his fantasy appeal a bit.

Tom Brady: Even with a deep crew of WRs, Brady was not the same fantasy QB he used to be in 2022. If he decides to keep playing, Brady may be a better real-life than fantasy option in 2023.

Derek Carr: He has never been regarded as a top fantasy starting QB, and he would have to be traded to a team that has a healthy amount of weaponry to stir optimism that Carr can possibly be a fantasy QB1. Washington could be one spot where Carr might have a better fantasy outlook, but he hasn’t shown enough in his career to excite most fantasy players with a change of address.

Jamaal Williams: After a career season, Williams is an unrestricted free agent. He has already said he would like to re-sign with the Lions, and D’Andre Swift’s durability concerns suggest Detroit should bring him back. But if Williams does sign elsewhere as a lead RB, he will be more enticing as a fantasy starter with less unpredictability.

Kenneth Walker/Rashaad Penny: Are the Seahawks going to bring Rashaad Penny back? If not, Walker has a clear path to fantasy RB1 upside in 2023. Penny might contend for a starting job or at least as part of a timeshare with another team next season.

Dalton Schultz: He was the second-most dependable pass-catcher for Dallas in 2022, but the Cowboys are stocked with some young TEs and Schultz could sign elsewhere. He may see his fantasy value drop in a less potent passing game or on a team with more pass-catchers to compete with.

David Montgomery: I have always been a fan of Montgomery, who runs hard and with great determination. I do believe that if the Bears move on from him, he could exceed fantasy expectations in a better offensive environment next season.
