Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks

Finn's Incoherent Weekend Picks

NBA Picks for February 29th and March 1st

Today is the first in many installments of Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks. Finn is my 20-month old son, who also happens to be both “The Container of Infinite Energy” as well as translucent. Along with the NBA picks, I’ve also tried to provide his rambling, sometimes incoherent, “commentary” and *actions* performed during his selection process.

This week’s picks were made by him pointing to NBA Team Logos for each match-up. I attempted to hold him with all the success of wrangling a bag of cats during the selection process. I assume he made his picks based off whether it resembled a favorite object of his, or because of the colors. The comments are legitimately his and were gathered with painful levels of patience.

Bulls v Knicks –The Knicks, because, “That one – WEEEEEE! Josh?” I’m guessing his friend Josh is a Knicks fan.

Nets v Heat – The Heat with a resounding, “AWWWWW YA! Basketball!” When asked about Jimmy Butler Finn had to say, “That button.” *Points into thin air.*

Trailblazers v Hawks – The Trailblazers based on, “Uhhhhh cheeses.” *Shakes rattle toy.*

Pacers v Cavaliers – The Indiana Pacers have Finn’s lock because “Books.” On Victor Oladipo’s return, “AY, AY, ah, AY.” *Eats fruit pouch.*

Lakers v Grizzlies – An immediate, “Some help – um Lakers,” based on the incredibly informative and little known factor, “Big truck.”

Magic v Spurs*Grunting sounds.* while he quickly pointed to San Antonio’s logo, “Stuck – Spurs, all done.”

Rockets v Celtics –  Finn is a bit of a homer like his Dad and had a quick digit aimed at the Celtics. “Sheep – Go Celtics!” he said. On what he estimates to be a big night for Jayson Tatum, “Boom! Boom!”

In my opinion, Finn has this one right, though it’ll be close. The Rockets can pose problems for the Celtics. A very small, mobile team like Houston can take advantage of the pick and roll against Boston’s big men. Houston’s perimeter shooting from James Harden can create space for the Rockets to drive the lane against Boston as well. Despite the potential mismatches, Boston has been surging and Jayson Tatum has looked unstoppable. Daniel Theis has provided surprisingly solid defense around the rim for the Celtics. He has held his ground in almost every match-up that he was supposed to struggle with this year. It may come down to a buzzer-beater, but Boston will walk away with the win.

Warriors v Suns – A wiggly pick for the Phoenix Suns with an unsure, “Um because sun.” *Chopped at my leg with a toy saw.*

Bucks v Hornets – In what would be a guaranteed lock for the Bucks for most people, Finn couldn’t make a choice, “A push, bye.” *Ran into the kitchen.* You’re on your own for this one, Charlotte coming off a big win must have thrown him.

Analysis by the Guardian of the Translucent One

For this pick, I’m going with a shocker for Charlotte. Giannis is a bit distracted of late, being at serious odds with James Harden in social media land. While his latest comments seem to have him squashing the drama, they have an almost defeated tone to them. That tone is odd for Giannis. Despite a big game against the Thunder, the comments concern me. I like my Giannis aggressive, and unwavering and backing off the beef doesn’t seem to fit that mold. Charlotte is also coming off a huge win against the Raptors, not an easy team to grab a W against. A combination of a distracted (and maybe bummed out) Giannis and a pumped-up Hornets squad will lead to the surprise of the weekend.

Mavericks v Timberwolves – “Ah nope, Wolves,” In a slightly confusing piece of commentary in favor of Minnesota. He does tend to prefer dogs to horses.

76ers v Clippers – Finn has the Los Angeles “Clippies.” In a shout out to the snack not on his snack tray, “No, no, no chippies.”

Pistons v Kings – The Detroit Pistons are locked in for Finn, with “The ball,” the deciding factor. When asked his thoughts on Derrick Rose, “Hi Mobi! (Our cat.) *Waves.*

Raptors v Nuggets – This was an easy one for him, Toronto Raptors get the win. Finn’s reason, “Dinosaur because more doin’.” He’s a big fan of Spicy P.

Lakers v Pelicans – A quick point to the New Orleans Pelicans logo. Finn has followed Zion Williamson’s return, and in a controversial comment on Zion he tossed out, “Tickle, tickle, tickle.” *Buried his head into the couch.*

Wizards v Warriors – Finn was pretty spent at this point. He did however feel strongly in favor of the Warriors, “Oh fingers, oh fingers.” This was repeated 12 times.

Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks – The Wrap Up

The cupcake stood no chance as Finnegan wears most of it across his face. That energy is what brings NBA fans Finn's Incoherent Weekend Picks for the foreseeable future.

It was right after struggling through the series of picks that Finn hit the close button on my touch screen laptop. This appeared to destroy all the notes and commentary we had just gathered. The incident only caused me moderate heart failure. Though it had me questioning the reality and future of Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Pics, luckily auto-save exists and Finn’s column will live on. We’ll see how the Translucent One’s picks hold up in next weekend’s column.
