Welcome to the Week 4 Blitz Pickup, where we review the most interesting facts, figures and notes from every NFL game each week. Just like a running back hitting a crucial chip on a blitzing linebacker, we’re going to make sure nothing gets by, all so you can make the plays you need to reach fantasy football paydirt. It’s down, it’s dirty. It’s the Week 4 Blitz Pickup!

Week 4 Blitz Pickup: Thursday Night

The white-out Bengals were white-hot against the Dolphins.

Dolphins 15 at Bengals 27

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was stretchered off the field and transported to a local hospital following an awkward hard tackle late in the first half… Tagovailoa has been ruled out for Week 5… Raheem Mostert out-snapped Chase Edmonds for the third straight week… Mostert’s snap share (71.9 percent) was the largest of the season for any Dolphin running back… Trent Sherfield played 62.5 percent of snaps and was second on the team with six targets… Durham Smythe played more snaps than Mike Gesicki for the third time in four games… Gesicki was targeted four times (Smythe had zero targets) but not once in the redzone…

After four interceptions in the season opener, Joe Burrow did not throw a pick for the third straight game… Joe Mixon continued his heavy usage, with 28 touches on 82.8 percent of snaps… Unfortunately, Mixon continued his inefficiency as well. Mixon averaged 2.5 yards per carry and is now averaging 2.7 for the season… Mixon scored his first touchdown of 2022… Tee Higgins led the team in receptions, targets, and yards… Ja’Marr Chase saw just six targets, his lowest total of the year to date… Hayden Hurst (11.7 points) caught a touchdown and had his best fantasy day as a Bengal… Hurst is just 22nd among tight ends in snaps percentage, but TE14 in scoring…

Vikings 28 at Saints 25

Kirk Cousins (QB18 overall) has now had two top-11 fantasy finishes and two games outside the top-20… Dalvin Cook went without a touchdown. His lone touchdown through four games is his lowest total through his first four games in a season since 2018. That year, he did not score until Week 12… Justin Jefferson caught 10 balls for the second time in his career… Jefferson has 42 targets, tied for fifth among wide receivers… Adam Thielen and Jefferson are fourth and fifth in the league in percentage of snaps played among wideouts… Irv Smith (TE17) has the lowest yards per target, catch percentage, and total yardage among tight ends with 20+ targets… Greg Joseph made all five of his field goal attempts to lead all kickers in scoring…

Andy Dalton started at quarterback for the injured Jameis Winston. Winston has been ruled out for Week 5 as well… With Alvin Kamara out with an injury, Mark Ingram led Latavius Murray in running back snaps 29-26. Murray had 12 touches for 65 yards and a score. Ingram had 14 touches for 43 yards… Murray was called up from the practice squad after signing less than three weeks prior to the game… Marquez Callaway saw six targets, his highest total of the season, and led all Saints’ non-linemen in snaps played… Adam Trautman received the most snaps at tight end for the first time this season. Juwan Johnson still received the most tight end targets… Wil Lutz kicked his first career 60+ yard field goal. His narrowly missed game-ending attempt would have made him the first kicker ever with multiple 60+ yarders in the same game…

Week 4 Blitz Pickup: Sunday Early Games

I mean, who didn’t have this matchup as the offensive explosion of the season?

Seahawks 48 at Lions 45

Geno Smith had his best rushing game of the season, with seven carries for 49 yards and a score. The rushing contributed to a 31.7 point, QB2 overall finish… Rashaad Penny out-snapped and out-touched Kenneth Walker by two-to-one, and was far more efficient with an average of 8.9 yards per rush on 17 carries… D.K. Metcalf saw double-digit targets for the second consecutive game, catching 7 of 10 for 149 yards… Noah Fant caught one pass for a two-yard touchdown, but Will Dissly continued to pace the Seahawks’ tight ends in snaps, targets, catches and fantasy scoring… Dissly is TE10 on the season…

Jared Goff had by far his most productive day as a Lion, finishing as overall QB1 with 33.22 points… Goff threw four touchdowns for the second time this season… With D’Andre Swift out, Jamaal Williams scored two touchdowns for the third time this season and is RB6 overall on the year… Justin Jackson had the first receiving score of his career… Josh Reynolds led Lions’ receivers in snaps, targets, and receptions en route to his best fantasy day since Week 17 of 2018… T.J. Hockenson had a career day in targets, yardage, and fantasy points. The 179 yards gave him only his second career 100-yard game, with 131 yards in his first career game his previous career-high… Quintez Cephus, D.J. Chark, and Swift have all been ruled out for Week 5 with injuries…

Browns 20 at Falcons 23

Jacoby Brissett had a season-high in yards, but failed to throw a touchdown for the first time this season… Kareem Hunt had his quietest fantasy day of the year, with 12 touches for 68 yards… Nick Chubb had over 100 yards for the third time and scored for the third week in a row… After two quiet weeks, Donovan Peoples-Jones had his best fantasy game of the season with five catches on nine targets for 71 yards… David Njoku (TE11) is second among tight ends in percentage of snaps played and total snaps played…

Commanders 10 at Cowboys 25

Carson Wentz had fewer than 10 fantasy points for the second consecutive game… Antonio Gibson is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry on the season and was out-snapped by J.D. McKissic for the second game in a row… Curtis Samuel saw the most targets of any Washington receiver for the fourth time in four games… Samuel leads Washington wideouts in targets, receptions, and fantasy points despite being third in snaps…

Cooper Rush threw two touchdowns and had his best career fantasy score (17.62)… After an almost even snap count Week 1, Ezekiel Elliott has now played over 60 percent of snaps in three straight. Tony Pollard, meanwhile, has averaged roughly 40 percent… Pollard averaged just 0.8 yards per carry in the game. Elliott averaged just 2.6 YPC… Michael Gallup caught two of three targets with a score in his return to the lineup following last season’s ACL injury… Gallup played 63.9 percent of snaps, third among Dallas wideouts behind CeeDee Lamb and Noah BrownDalton Schultz played 90.2 percent of snaps but was catchless on three targets. It was his first game without a reception since 2019…

Titans 24 at Colts 17

Ryan Tannehill had his most efficient passing game (81 percent) since Week 6 of 2019… Derrick Henry scored for the third game in a row and had at least five targets for the second consecutive game… This is the first time in Henry’s career he’s had that many targets in multiple games in a season… Hassan Haskins did not see action in the backfield… Treylon Burks suffered an injury that has found him placed on IR… Robert Woods led the Titans’ receivers in snaps and receiving… Geoff Swaim led Tennessee’s tight ends in snaps, but Chigoziem Okonkwo functioned as the main receiving threat at the position… The rookie caught three of three balls and scored his first career touchdown on a redzone look…

Matt Ryan had his best game in a Colt uniform and was QB12 on the week… Jonathan Taylor had just 3.3 points, his worst career fantasy game… Taylor has an injury that ruled him out for Week 5… Despite being third in snaps, Alec Pierce led the Colts’ wideouts in receiving for the first time… Michael Pittman received both wide receiver redzone targets… The three Indianapolis tight ends were a perfect 11 for 11 on receiving targets… Mo Alie-Cox scored two touchdowns on two redzone targets… Indy tight ends are five-of-seven overall in the redzone with four touchdowns so far this season…

Bears 12 at Giants 20

Justin Fields had his highest passing yardage (174) of the season. While he did not throw a touchdown, he did not throw an interception for the first time in 2022… While David Montgomery sat with an injury, Khalil Herbert led the Bears’ backfield in snaps and all offensive categories for the second game in a row… After seeing just five targets in the first two games, Darnell Mooney has seen 11 in the past two games… Mooney was WR24 for the week… Cole Kmet caught all three of his targets for just 16 yards and is TE47 for the season thus far…

Shortly after taking the field for an injured Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor suffered a concussion and was ruled out… Jones would return to the field mostly as a decoy receiver, as Saquon Barkley took snaps in the “Wildcat” formation… Taylor is out for the Week 5 game in London… Barkley leads the league in snaps and snap percentage at running back… Barkley is also the overall RB1 despite scoring only two touchdowns so far… Kenny Golladay suffered an injury that has him ruled out for Week 5… Kadarius Toney and Wan’Dale Robinson both missed the game with injuries and are also out for Week 5… Daniel Bellinger has caught eight-of-nine targets on the season…

Jaguars 21 at Eagles 29

Trevor Lawrence threw an interception and lost four fumbles on the day… Travis Etienne led James Robinson in snaps played, and led Robinson in usage for the first time… Robinson did, however, see all three backfield redzone touches… Jamal Agnew had his best career game, scoring two touchdowns for the first time… Zay Jones did not play with an injury… Evan Engram led Jacksonville tight ends in snaps but saw just one target…

Jalen Hurts had his worst passing game of the season (16/24, 204 yards, one interception) but did have a rushing score. Hurts leads all quarterbacks with four rushing touchdowns… Miles Sanders scored multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 14 of 2020… Kenneth Gainwell scored a rushing touchdown but had just five carries on the day… After eight catches for a 21.1 yard per reception average last week, DeVonta Smith had only three grabs and averaged just 5.7 yards per catch… A.J. Brown (WR10) saw his fewest targets (seven) of the season, but finished with double-digit fantasy points for the fourth time in as many games this season…

Jets 24 at Steelers 20

Zach Wilson had a touchdown passing and receiving in his first game action of the year… Breece Hall had 17 rushes and 6 targets to just 9 and 3 for Michael Carter… Hall out-snapped Carter for the second week in a row and by a larger margin… Corey Davis and Wilson immediately rekindled their chemistry from last season, leading to Davis’s best fantasy score to date this year… Garrett Wilson was second among Jets’ receivers in snaps and tied Davis in targets with six… Braxton Berrios threw Wilson’s touchdown reception… After not seeing less than seven targets in the first three weeks, Tyler Conklin saw only five in Week 4 and had his lowest fantasy output of the year…

First-round draft choice Kenny Pickett replaced Mitchell Trubisky after halftime… Pickett threw three interceptions, but did rush for two touchdowns in his pro debut… Najee Harris averaged 4.1 yards per carry, his best since Week 17 of 2021 and only the sixth time he’s reached that number in his career… Rookie Jaylen Warren is averaging 5.0 yards per carry thus far into his career… George Pickens played two fewer snaps than Chase Claypool, but led the team in receiving… Pickens’s eight targets were more than Claypool (two) and Diontae Johnson (four) combined… Pat Freiermuth led the team in targets with nine and had his second-best fantasy score ever (15.5) while setting a new career high in yardage (85)…

Bills 23 at Ravens 20

Josh Allen had his worst fantasy showing of the season with 23.52 points… Allen was QB5 on the week and is QB2 on the year thus far… Devin Singletary played 87.5 percent of snaps to just 9.4 for Zack Moss, by far their largest discrepancy to date this season… Singletary looks to have taken control of the Buffalo backfield at this point… Since returning from an injury that cost him Week 2, Gabe Davis has caught just four of nine targets for 50 yards… While he tied Isaiah McKenzie with only four catches on six targets, Stefon Diggs (WR2 overall) is still tied for eighth in the league in wide receiver targets… Dawson Knox saw a season-high six targets, but still has not scored a touchdown this season… Jamison Crowder was placed on IR after injuring his ankle… McKenzie suffered a concussion and is questionable for Week 5…

Lamar Jackson had his most pedestrian passing output of the season and failed to score a rushing touchdown for the first time since Week 1… Jackson remains the overall QB1, however… J.K. Dobbins led Baltimore’s tailbacks in snaps in just his second game back from injury… Dobbins caught his first career receiving touchdown en route to his second-best career fantasy day… Rashod Bateman led the team in targets, but suffered a foot injury that has him ruled out for Week 5… Mark Andrews (two catches for 15 yards) had his lowest fantasy score since Week 14 of 2019… Andrews is still TE2 overall…

Chargers 34 at Texans 24

After not finding the endzone through three games, Austin Ekeler scored three touchdowns for the fifth time in his career… For the second week in a row, Sony Michel out-snapped and out-touched Joshua Kelley and appears to have taken over as Ekeler’s primary backup at this point… Josh Palmer had just one target… Gerald Everett (17.1 points) has now scored at least 13.1 fantasy points in three out of four games this season and ranks as TE6 overall… Everett is only 19th in snap percentage among tight ends…

Davis Mills threw two interceptions for the second consecutive week… Dameon Pierce handled every running back carry and out-targeted Rex Burkhead six to five… Pierce had his first career 100 yard game and was RB5 on the week… Brandin Cooks caught all seven of his targets and had his first touchdown of the season… O.J. Howard led the tight ends in snaps and targets… Former starting tight end Pharaoh Brown was released by the team…

Week 4 Blitz Pickup: Sunday Late Games

Cheeseheads were all looking to heaven after this overtime kick prevented a loss to a rookie third-string quarterback.

Patriots 24 at Packers 27 (OT)

Brian Hoyer started for injured quarterback Mac Jones but suffered a concussion on the Patriots’ second drive. Hoyer was placed on IR as a result… Bailey Zappe saw his first career game action and went 10 of 15 for 99 yards and a score in relief of Hoyer… Zappe will apparently start Week 5… Rhamondre Stevenson out-snapped Damien Harris for the third straight week, but Harris had 18 carries and one target to 14 carries and five targets for Stevenson… Harris also out-touched Stevenson in the redzone… With Jakobi Meyers out, Nelson Agholor was the lead receiver as targets were spread out among Patriot pass-catchers… Hunter Henry has not scored more than 4.0 fantasy points in any game this season…

Aaron Rodgers threw a pick-six at Lambeau Field for just the second time in his career… Aaron Jones played three more snaps than AJ Dillon, but Dillon (17) had one more carry than Jones. Jones out-targeted Dillon four to two… Allen Lazard had the first 100 yard receiving game for a Packers’ wideout since Davante Adams in Week 17 last season… Robert Tonyan had the first receiving score for a Green Bay tight end this season and his first since tearing his ACL last season…

Cardinals 26 at Panthers 16

Kyler Murray (QB6 overall) attempted a season-high 12 rushes and scored his second rushing touchdown of the year… It was the most rushing attempts in a game for Murray since Week 14 of 2020… James Conner is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry this season and has not scored since Week 1… Marquise Brown now has 26 receptions on 39 targets in the last three games… Rondale Moore caught three of five targets and played 85.5 percent of snaps in his first game action of the season… With Moore in the lineup, Greg Dortch saw only one target and played just 35.5 percent of snaps (80 percent the first three weeks)… Zach Ertz caught all six of his targets for 47 yards and a score and is TE4 on the season…

Baker Mayfield has seen his fantasy scores decrease with every game of the season, culminating in a 5.88-point performance in Week 4… After seeing 10 targets in the first three weeks, Christian McCaffrey caught all nine of his targets and had his best fantasy score of the season… D.J. Moore saw 11 targets. He had seen exactly six targets in each of the first three games… Laviska Shenault suffered a hamstring injury and is out for Week 5… Tommy Tremble was third in snaps for Panther tight ends, but caught three of six targets…

Broncos 23 at Raiders 32

Russell Wilson had his best game as a Bronco, throwing for two scores and rushing for another… Javonte Williams was lost for the season after tearing his ACL and LCL and also suffering additional damage in his right knee… Melvin Gordon fumbled for the fourth time in four games (lost two)… Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy each scored a touchdown. It was the first time they’ve scored in the same game… Albert Okwuegbunam played only one snap in the game…

Although he had thrown two touchdowns in each of the first three games, Derek Carr did not have a passing touchdown in the contest… Josh Jacobs had his first 100 yard game of the season and caught five passes for the second straight game… Davante Adams caught 9 of 13 targets for 101 yards but did not score a touchdown for the first time this season…

Week 4 Blitz Pickup: Sunday Night

There were plenty of touchdowns to signal in the Week 4 Sunday Night Football contest.

Chiefs 41 at Buccaneers 31

Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdowns and is tied for the league lead with 11 touchdown passes… Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored a touchdown rushing and receiving for the first time in his career… It was the second two-score game of the season for CEH… JuJu Smith-Schuster led the Chiefs’ receivers in targets for the third time in four games this year… Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are the Chiefs’ top two wideouts, but neither has scored yet this season… Travis Kelce (overall TE1) leads all tight ends in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He is third in targets…

Tom Brady threw three touchdowns without an interception and had his best fantasy score of the season by far…Brady attempted 52 passes, his most since Week 3 last season… Tampa Bay had just six rushing attempts on the day, three each by Leonard Fournette (negative three yards) and Rachaad White (six yards)… Chris Godwin led the team with 10 targets in his first game since suffering a Week 1 injury… Mike Evans scored two touchdowns for the eighth time with Brady… Cameron Brate suffered a concussion that has him ruled out for Week 5…

Week 4 Blitz Pickup: Monday Night

Yeah, that look about sums it up, Matt. Ouch.

Rams 9 at 49ers 24

Matthew Stafford attempted 48 passes, tied for his most with Los Angeles… Stafford did not throw a touchdown and had just 6.76 fantasy points, his second-fewest as a Ram… Darrell Henderson led the Rams’ running backs in snaps played, but Cam Akers had eight carries to Henderson’s seven… Henderson saw four targets to Akers’s one… Cooper Kupp saw a season-high 19 targets but did not score for the first time since Week 16 last season… Allen Robinson had just two catches for seven yards… Tyler Higbee saw 14 targets, the most by any tight end on the season… Higbee leads all tight ends in targets thus far in the season and is TE5 overall…

Jeff Wilson tied a season high with 18 rush attempts and scored his first touchdown on the year… Deebo Samuel led San Francisco in receiving but had just two rush attempts, his fewest since Week 9 of 2021… Brandon Aiyuk has dropped 8.7 percent of his targets this season… George Kittle played 47 snaps yet saw just four targets, catching two…
