Fantasy Football

Week 5 Sunday Fantasy Football Studs & Duds

Do you know what the best feeling is? Knowing you’ll win your fantasy football matchup by a landslide and not have to worry about your opponent’s players on Monday night. That was the case for me, thanks to Gabriel Davis‘s amazing performance for the Buffalo Bills. Three catches, 171 yards, and two touchdowns? Good enough for me!

But, Sunday was full of outstanding football. From the New York Giants upsetting the Green Bay Packers in London to Justin Tucker‘s game-winning field goal against the Bengals, there were some entertaining games all around. Let’s dive into who showed out for their fantasy owners and who straight out disappointed.

The Studs From Sunday’s Slate

Let’s begin with a player from the New Orleans Saints. Yes, Alvin Kamara had 194 yards from scrimmage. But, even that wasn’t the best performance from New Orleans.

After being subpar through the first four weeks, Taysom Hill put on a show against the Seahawks. The “tight end” ran for 112 yards and scored three times on his way to a 34.08 fantasy point performance. Well past his projection of 4.8 pts, he was the star for a Saints team that was without Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry.

Did we also mention he can throw? Sure, it was only one completion for 22 yards, but it goes to show Hill is quite the definition of versatility.

Can Hill’s performance be consistent in the future? That’s unclear, but the Saints’ coaching staff has to get him more involved after seeing what he can do in different roles on the offense.

Also, how about Leonard Fournette? The Tampa Bay running back only ran for 56 yards. But, Tom Brady was finding him multiple times in the passing game. Ten catches for 83 yards led the Buccaneers in the receiving game and gave fantasy owners who started him an easy win.

35.9 PPR points was the best fantasy performance from Sunday’s slate of games. He now has at least five receptions in the last three games after having just four in the first two games of the season.

Other Studs: Austin Ekeler (35.9), Josh Allen (35.16), Gabriel Davis (32.1), Breece Hall (27.7)

Next, We Have the Fantasy Football Disappointments. I mean, Duds.

The Detroit Lions were statistically one of the best offenses in the NFL heading into Sunday. Facing the Patriots’ defense was their kryptonite, as they put up a goose egg.

Amon-Ra St. Brown was projected to score almost 18 PPR points. Instead, he disappointed with just 18 receiving yards on four catches. Finishing with just 5.8 points, he underperformed in a huge way for those who started him in week five.

Make excuses for the ankle sprain all you want. Jared Goff and the Lions struggled all day to get into field goal range. Even when they had things rolling on offense, Goff targeted Josh Reynolds (15.2) more often compared to St. Brown.

The same could be said for Lions’ running back Jamaal Williams, who finished with just 56 yards rushing and 5.6 fantasy points. Projected to have 16.0 points, he was even more disappointing after two outstanding fantasy performances in the past couple of weeks.

Also, what happened to the Cooper Rush hype? It died, didn’t it? Projected to have 15 fantasy points against the Rams’ defense, he finished with just 3.98 points. He threw for over 200 during his first three starts this season. But, he barely threw for 100 in week five. This is the start of Rush’s downfall from a fantasy football perspective, as the Cowboys will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles next.

Other Duds: Ezekiel Elliott (7.8), Drake London (7.5), Najee Harris (6.6), A.J. Dillon (3.4)
