Fantasy Football

The New York Giants, A Love Story

The 2020 New York Giants are primed to have one of the most explosive offenses in all of football. And I don’t believe the ADP is properly valuing some of their guys. But I want all the exposure I can get to three guys specifically. Don’t believe me? Well take a seat, and let me explain.

The Offensive Line

The New York Giants addressed the offensive line in both the draft and in free agency. Georgia’s Andrew Thomas was widely considered the most NFL ready OT prospect. They also added Connecticut OT Matt Peart and Oregon OG Shane Lemieux, though neither is projected to start. Nate Solder still plays there so it’s not all roses, but the Giants also added former Cowboy OT Cameron Fleming.

Center will be a battle between a few guys, but with the depth added this off-season, I can see no way the Giants’ offensive line is not better. The guards are both good and Marc Colombo was brought in to coach. A top 10 offensive line is not out of the question this year. This improvement in the trenches should directly translate into fantasy results for Saquon, Danny Dimes, and the WRs. One in particular.

Darius Slayton

What an exceptional class of WR we got in 2019. An 8 TD, 740-yard performance on only 48 catches would garner more attention any other year, but players like D.K. Metcalf, A.J. Brown, Terry McLaurin, and Deebo Samuel overshadowed Slayton in 2020. Perhaps it is because he went in the 5th round. But his 15.4 yards per catch average lead me to believe he is only going to be better in 2020.

Neither Golden Tate nor a relatively unimpressive Sterling Shepard should give him too much competition as the WR1. In 2019, Tate had 50 touches for 692 yards and 6 TDS. Shepard had 63 touches for 643 yards and 3 TDs. Neither of those guys put up the numbers Slayton did, Both had more touches. That trend is over. Slayton will receive the WR1 share in 2020. Which brings me to another reason I am high on the New York Giants. The guy throwing to him.

Daniel Jones

Danny Dimes started 12 games in 2019, and he threw 24 TDs to go along with 3027 yards, and he rushed for 2 TDs to go along with 279 rushing yards. Those are pretty good numbers for 12 games. Granted, he threw 12 INTs and lost 11 fumbles, but an improved line should theoretically help both of those numbers drop. The fumbling issue is fixable for sure. But in his second year, after a year of adjusting to the speed of the NFL, Jones should be primed for success.

Jason Garrett hasn’t exactly hurt QBs from a fantasy perspective, as Dak and Romo before him put up fantastic stats in Garrett’s offense. And again, I can not stress enough what the improvements on the offensive line mean for him. He had 38 sacks in 12 games. That extrapolates to nearly 51 sacks in a 16 game season. Ouch. The line will not be worse than last year, barring significant injuries. Jones showed enough in 2019 to be excited about 2020. Plus, he has the best RB in the league, which is the last reason I am very high on The New York Football Giants.

Saquon Barkley

SaQuads struggled in 2019 after a breathtaking rookie year in 2018. Injuries derailed a portion of his campaign, forcing him to miss three games. He also was only managing 1.8 yards before contact, a sign of the poor offensive line play in front of him. As you may remember, they will be better this year. It is kind of impressive that he still managed 4.6 yards per carry in 2019. And then I remember, he is Saquon Barkley. His catches also went from 91 in 2018 to 52 in 2019. Some of his decrease in production may have been due to the injury, but most of it is likely due to the ineptitude of the New York Giants staff and line.

I am assuming both of those issues have been remedied. Including his “down” 2019 season, Saquon currently averages 119.6 scrimmage yards along with 0.79 TDs per game. That means his 16 game career average as of today is 1913.6 total yards, 12.64 TDs. I think those numbers are both low because of his “down” year. This will be the best offensive line he has had since joining the team. I am taking Saquon 1.01. While I understand the CMC argument, I truly believe Saquon comes back with a vengeance in 2020, and he brings the Giants with him.

I am all in on New York as a fantasy destination. The Giants that is. The Jets? Hell no! I want maximum exposure to Jones, Saquon, and Slayton. A healthy Evan Engram unlocks this offense’s full potential, but I lack the confidence to make that prediction. Tate and Shepard could also benefit from the improvements, but the three I previously mentioned will be the real movers and shakers for this offense. When you think high-powered offenses, the Chiefs, Saints, Ravens may come to mind. But move over guys, the New York Giants want into the conversation. And considering the age of the three guys I listed, they might decide they want to stay.
